Dems suffer local election loss in Arlington, VA- first since '99

Quote:Independent John Vihstadt soundly defeated Democrat Alan Howze in the Arlington County (Virginia) Board special election on April 9, making this the first Democrat loss in an Arlington Board contest since 1999.

According to Kenric Ward of Watchdog.org:

“Howze lost by 3,500 votes, despite email blitzes and robocalls from Gov. Terry McAuliffe and U.S. Sen. Mark Warner. …

Political observers say the County Board’s big-spending transportation agenda — including $1 million bus stops and a controversial streetcar proposal — turned off voters. …

‘We need to focus spending on core services first — public schools, public safety, infrastructure maintenance, and neighborhood quality of life — not a $310 million streetcar (and) million-dollar bus stops,’ Vihstadt said during the campaign.”

Looks like voters finally tired of cronyism and wasteful spending. This is good for the country, since so many people in Arlington get their money from the Fed gov't coffers

Yet Terrence won VA because of NoVA 8 short months ago.

Nah, there's no election fraud.

Nah, there's no election fraud.

To clarify: this was special election, w/ very low turnout.

My boss made a special effort to vote in this, but he said it wouldn't last. The Dem machine will crank up and win the regular election, as they did in '99.

Oh, and as for all those concerned w/ gerrymandering, worth noting that Arlington County Dems REFUSE to allow precincts for more balanced representation.

So much for caring about the little guy.
