Millett to receive a facelift
From some posters on the Miami boards:

Quote:I received a letter today about enhancements to Millett for next year and the offer (previously talked about here) to purchase season tickets at same price as this year.

The letter states that students will be seated center court on East Side of court and all season ticket holders will be on the West Side. New seats and new lighting with new seats being installed behind scorers table and benches.

All season ticket holders will be reseated.

Disappointed to see that no change in the orientation of the court so that puts a lot of seats in the South End a long way from the court. I always thought that moving the court that way and putting students in the horseshoe made the most sense. Perhaps it was not feasible because of the exit ramps.

They are not giving much time to respond to the offer. April 15 and I just got the letter today.

I might be willing to spring for courtside or floor seats but it mentioned an additional donation but did not say what that was. I should have enough "points" to get decent seats anyway--35 year season ticket holder.

Quote:I have a few more details.

1 - All of the green seats in the lower arena are being ripped out and replaced with bright RED seats.

2 - Two more rows of seats are going to be stair-stepped down onto the track from the existing seats, hopefully on both the east and west sides; leaving just 6 or 7 feet before the courtside seats.

3 - The courtside seats are going to be upgraded, sold at a lower price, with a lower required donation, in order to hopefully fill all the courtside seats.

4 - All of this is scheduled to completed before this coming season.

5 - All season ticket holders will be re-seated this summer.

A good sign...we've been talking about upgrades to Millet for quite some time.

All will be for naught if they don't replace the worst lighting I've seen in any arena.

The guy mentions new lighting in the first post, so I suppose that's on the to-do list. I wish that we could move the court into the horseshoe and put the students on the south side so the opposing team has to play towards them the second half, but at least this is an improvement.

Green seats? Did they lose a bet to OU way back when? [/align]

RE: Millett to receive a facelift
Not yet, there's been no public announcement. Not sure exactly why that's the case, maybe they're waiting for someone to pledge a little more money to put it over the top.

It's been strange seeing this reno, the Yager IPF, the baseball locker rooms, and ice arena addition all be announced within months of each other. Biggest difference is that the new AD, and our admin have also allowed us to start building based on money pledged (in the past we had to have all the cash in-hand before doing anything). A new locker room for Millett and a new indoor tennis center are on the to-do list.
