The Nippert changes will be paid for by the new suites and pavilion seats. If A 5/3 redo can be made a self feeder why not do it. Let all the folks who want it open their check books.

I have been saying that literally for months. The Nippert renovations were more needed AND will have a greater ROI that will finance the 5/3 renovations.

Not only that, the Nippert project is, for all intents and purposes, a "done deal" from the AD's POV... So, yeah...the BB renovations are now the "top priority" for the AD and the department.

Basketball will pay for itself in a different way. Bearcat basketball has been UC's best program over the long haul so the potential win big, increase ticket sales, and push merchandise during a period where the city isn't sidetracked by pro sports is still there. UC sold out the last three games of the season last season and one of them was against Houston! While football will pay for itself with the premium seating basketball has a chance to become a better brand long term. Strong programs in both sports are needed as well as an increased emphasis on the entire athletic portfolio.

I really really hope they ACTUALLY think getting into a new conference is the #1 priority. I'm guessing they just aren't allowed to say that.

Ditto.

And actually, from the university standpoint, I think that new law and business schools should be a higher priority than basketball. COB is literally bursting at the seams right now and they'll be even more packed in next year.

Don't get me started on the law school. When I applied it was a tier 1 school ranked in the top 50. When I graduated it was still in the 50 to 60 range. Now its ranked in the low 70's. The building has always been a joke and the administration is underprepared and understaffed to deal with the current trends in law school education.

I disagree that getting UC to a power conference should be the ultimate goal. You can still lose games and have crappy buildings in the Big XII or ACC. Whats the point of getting there if you are not acting like a major player. New basketball arena, new social science building, new business school building, and new law school might have to come before a power five invite because that invitation might should years from now or not at all. UC needs the money but they might need to build before the money shows up.

I realize this is off topic, and apologize for furthering the discussion at all, but you should read up on the current plan for the Law School Relocation if you have the time/desire. If the Bengals allow for the Phase 2-B section of The Banks project to move forward as is, the Law School may stand to benefit greatly from it.

COB has ongoing discussions regarding a facility expansion potentially utilizing the underpopulated CARE/Crowley Building or a potential partnership with the city at Burnet Woods, but logistically, it is much harder for COB to commence any structural project due to the sheer size of their college enrollment. If the Law School plan goes ahead as scheduled, the space where the current Law School resides MAY be used for new and interesting means.

I'm just really unhappy that the Wilson Hall space is being utilized the way it is. Not at all what this university needs as far as logistical space, but the need for more research space won out over the insane need for more classroom and office space on our campus.

It is rumored that the banks is the front runner for the new GE facility. I am not sure how that affects the law school plans

If the University of Cincinnati College of Law moves downtown it will throw away all the benefits it receives from being affiliated with the campus. It was difficult to complete a joint degree program or take class outside of the law school when one was on semesters and another was on quarters. Move downtown and you can kiss goodbye the JD/MBA and JD/Women Studies programs that always attracted students. In my view UC Law should be providing its graduates a chance to work at UC law one year after their graduation in either a legal clinic, academic research, or a teaching fellowship with other UC colleges. They don't let an MD into the real world without hours of practice and it should be the same for a JD.

I don't want basketball to move downtown if there was an equal option on campus; however, the benefits of moving should be explored. There is a chance for UC basketball to become the "pro" basketball team in the city if they were downtown. Team has to be good and the arena spectacular.

I don't believe new classroom space is going to be an easy sell. With online courses making there way into traditional education, I can't see UC building a lot of new classrooms. Buildings that serve many purposes are the here to stay.

I guess this gives us an idea on where the future venue question is going. If it was that conclusive, or to me even possible, that we are leaving 5th/3rd, I doubt this locker room plan would even be in the works.

Or, at least I would hope not. To spend over a million bucks on something that would be used only two years max, before moving downtown, would be a huge waste of money. Especially for a program getting TV peanuts and always having to rub two nickels together.

Disagree on that front. I would upgrade the locker room no matter where UC is going to play in the future. I am sure the arena will still be used for the women's team because UC isn't moving them downtown to play in front of nobody. The men's team can still practice there as well.

You have a point on 5/3 and the wome's team. But, I thought the men's team ALREADY had a practice facility, which, by the way, was also recently duded up nicely. If the team starts practicing in the Shoe, wouldn't that assume a waste of money on the current practice facility?

By the way, I always have wondered about why the team needed a separate practice facility for basketball, when it would seem easy enough to do on the court which they play.

Have you ever seen the practice facility? It is very easy to monitor and control entry. Not so much at the Shoe.

The court is not always set up at the Shoe as well depending on what other events might be happening. Remember, it is an all purpose facility.

Thanks Otto. That would certainly rule out ever practicing there.

But, I guess Law's point about the women's team remains intact.
