Fresno St. refuses to join an imaginary conference w/o our well respected eastern twin, ECU.

Too many MW conference teams. Id be for merging the current 12 AAC schools with 5-6 MW schools. Most of the population is in the east, so it doesn't make sense to have half the teams west of the Rockies. I'd take 5 of the MW schools mentioned, add Army in the east---and create divisions. You could go to 5 team pods if you wanted to push the number of schools to 20. Of course, you would need new NCAA divisional play rules to make a 20 team conference viable.

LOL, that's like saying " No thanks I prefer my 900 sq. ft. One bedroom apt., to a 5000 sq. ft. 4 bedroom penthouse." No offense SDSU, you are the only MWC member I personally want to see thrive.

Football - everyone plays each other in their division and 1 or 2 games against the opposite divion
The Winners of each division meet in Vegas for the championship game.

Similar setup for bball
West play their division tourney in Vegas
East in NYC or another big city
West and east winners meet in Vegas for one game.

I'm not sure how Olympic sports would be done but I have faith in the ads

Western teams have solid fanbases and growing populations.
Nothing to worry about

No desire to wait 100 years for their populations to be a factor. The population in the east is already there. Adding SDSU, Fresno, Boise, New Mexico, and either Air Force or Colorado St allows the conference to gain representation where most of the western population is. Those 5 schools represent a nice combination of football and basketball quality in the west. Maybe we could even add BYU as an Olympic member. Pick up Army in the east and the conference would be quite attractive to a national sports network.

West

Boise
SDSU
Fresno
UNLV
Air Force
Houston
SMU
Tulsa
Tulane

The remaining AAC school's plus Army would play in the east. If Army doesn't come, an additional MW school can be added.

I may be wrong ... but ... how can you even consider leaving ECU and 50000 fans off that list!!! ... wont we be leading the AAC in attendance? ... yes I do realize that there is more than football but that's a hunk of people on national tv raising hell and making the AAC visible as a rowdy ass football first crowd!!! ... aaarrrggghhh!!!

No. They pick off Idaho and NM State at continue as an 8 team conference. They could pick up some Big Sky schools if need be.

RE: MWC and AAC merger+ military+ NBC sports tv
This isn't a proposal for an MWC-AAC merger, it's a proposal for a national "best of the rest" type conference that's been brought up and shot down on this board at least a dozen times in the past couple of years. If it was going to happen it would have already. The MWC and AAC will remain as they are unless one or both conferences are raided by the P5 (potentially weakening one enough to be raided by the other), or the conference championship game rule changes in a way that allows for a semifinal round (potentially making a true merger worthwhile).

The idea to just add the teams east of the rockies and BYU to the AAC is interesting.

How about this

AAC west
BYU, New Mexico, Air force, Colorado State, Houston, SMU, Tulsa, Tulane

AAC east
UCF, USF, ECU, Memphis, UConn, Cincy, Temple, Navy

NEW Mountain West
SDSU, Fresno, SJSU, UNLV, Nevada, Boise, Utah State, Wyoming, Hawaii, New Mexico state

They already tried that and no networks offered enough money. It was the CUSA/MWC merger then, but the teams were basically the same. So then the CUSA schools just joined UConn, USF and Cincinnati in the AAC.

This type of better than thou attitude is what made everyone outside the old BE sick. Considering you asked a bunch of them to come and save your old conference, I would not be so picky. They backed out on you...
