NBR - Calipari to the Lakers?
Rex chapman former UK star is tweeting that it is a done deal, win or lose tonight.

It will simplify things to have my most hated coach coaching my most hated team.

The only thing that would make it better would be for Kentucky to hire Pearl & break Scarbinsky's heart.

Please let this be true!

I'll be interested to see what he can do against other teams with players on the payroll.

I'm wrong about coaches a lot, but I can't see this happening.

Cal has everything he wants at Kentucky, unless sanctions are coming. Which is always possible with him.

Plus I can't see Kobe wanting a first time NBA coach for his last few good years left.

He's not a first time NBA coach, he coached the Nets in the 90's and they sucked.

Well... he wouldn't be first-time NBA coach. Still, I'll admit, this seems a little unlikely.

That's right, I forgot. Still I think the Lakers would get someone with more proven experience.

He's taken UK to the Final twice in three years. He's got nowhere to go but down, and those fans are every bit as entitled and delusional as the Bama football fans. Two Finals in three years are in no way good enough.

Second, he's created a monster with the teams full of McD's AllAmericans... they don't want to be coached, it takes them time to jell, and about the time they start to learn they're all gone and he has to start over. The recruiting and craziness then starts all over.

The NBA is a grind, but he'll get even more money and won't have to put up with the same crap year after year. Yeah, he'll have a whole different set of problems, but there basically is no better college job than UK to go to.

I hope he takes the Laker job just so I can watch the ensuing chaos.

Why would he ever leave Kentucky ? He gets to show up for work 40 nights a year and not have to coach and the entire state thinks he is a genius.

If he goes to the Lakers after game 35 the world will know Calapari is still an idiot that can't coach.

see BandDad post. Plus, keep in mind that some coaches consider the NBA to be the major leagues and college to be the minor's. for some of them, their ultimate goal is to be a success in the NBA. i don't think the majority of us will ever understand the egos of some of these big time coaches

Because the UK fans watched basically their entire team leave, be replaced with a bunch of blue chip freshmen, and started buying 40-0 T-shirts?

How do we feel about having six freshmen come in? What are our fears for the season? Aren't we going "I hope he gets a solid Juco big in here, we're going to be *so* young and green"?

UK will get the cream of the crop recruited... but they are still freshmen, not mature physically or mentally, and they don't know the college game nearly as well as they think they do... and Cal has to coach that up year after year. It's got to be a grind, and then you throw in the fans.

If it wasn't Calipari I'd have some sympathy for the guy. I did for Tubby Smith.

Calipari has two skills that doesn't translate to the NBA

Recruitment
Manipulation

The same is said about Saban and the NFL. That was a failure to the Nth degree.

Pretty much. Listening to Mike & Mike this morning, They said at Kentucky, he controls everything about his program. As an NBA coach, he'll won't control much of anything.

That would probably matter to a guy like the squid.

True enough, but what he does have is ego. By the container load.

The L.A. Lakers are the top pro sports team in the nation's second largest market. There are more people in LA than in all of Kentucky. It's a big money, big exposure job.

And Worldwide Wes is an agent now...

True. And I'd love to see him leave UK high and dry.

I'm just not sure he would. (and not because of any feelings of loyalty or altruism, mind you. Let's not descend into total fantasy. 03-lol )
