Maybe it's because I'm a BUC fan, but I really don't see the Marshall job as an improvement. If anything we are more desirable.

RE: Bartow to Marshall?
Marshall paid their last coach $220k, I'd say that's pretty desirable.

It is not that big a raise, plus you have to look at what other perks Marshall offers vs ETSU. Also I would say cost of living is close so that shouldn't be a factor but maybe where would you rather live? I would pick Johnson City over West Virginia.

Exactly, it's not a big increase. I'm not sure how much he makes, but with all other incentives, I'm almost positive it is much higher than 220k.

Re: Bartow to Marshall?
Assuming MuBar's base salary is still about $165k, the previous coach at Marshall was making about $55k more per year which would amount to a 33% raise. No the Marshall job would not net him 7 figures like some coaching jobs do but I for one hesitate to call a 33% raise or $55k per year an insignificant amount.
Now perhaps MuBar has been attractive to Marshall if he has been at all because maybe they thought he could be hired and paid something less than the previous coach, say under $200k. As someone else noted Marshall has been cutting their basketball budget of late and hiring MuBar could be seen as one more way to do that.

Definitely on living, but Marshall is:
1. A higher profile conference. I don't believe they'll be an auto bid league permanently.
2. 55K is a solid pay increase when you're talking the level of money he's making or could be making.
3. Marshall has a better arena/facilities.
4. I don't believe he gets an extension here regardless of what happens, and unless he wins a conference championship next year, I really feel like they'll finally run him off.
If the hire is right and the right donor is happy, chartering flights could all of a sudden become an option.
Of course there could be some superstition there, does Marshall charter any flights (Not being disrespectful here at all, but I don't know that I would, especially after the incident a few years ago on the anniversary of the tragedy when the plane had to make an emergency landing, flying home from ECU).

Let's all be happy for Bartow if he gets the job and wish him best of luck at Marshall!

RE: Bartow to Marshall?
Will he be getting the same level of perks at Marshall? They have been slashing the basketball budget two years in a row. I hope they offer him a much better package then he is getting at ETSU, I would love to see him gone.

RE: Bartow to Marshall?
Actually he made a whole lot more then Bartow and more then just 220k
Quote:Writes Redd: “According to Herrion’s contract, if he is fired without cause, he is owed his ‘annual salary’ for each remaining year of the deal, prorated for any partial year. Herrion has two years and three months left on his contract with a current annual salary of $285,755. Herrion will receive that in a lump sum within 30 days.”

So great, go Murry Murry go, take the money.

Looks like it is D'Antonio to Marshall, but Dan not Mike. Sound like they are setting it up for Mike somewhere down the road

Bummer. Looks like ETSU has Murry for life. I keep hoping UAB will take him back. I'd rather have Funny Sonny than Murry.

That's a very curious hire! I'm sure he's a good X's and O's guy; and, I'm sure he relates very well to basketball players in their mid-twenties through early forties. But, I wonder how he relates to 18 and 20 year old's after being away from the college game for 43 years. More so, I wonder how his recruiting skills are.

Here's an interesting read: http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaab-the-...23711.html
