Jaylon Tate?
Heard a rumor he might be transferring to NIU. Can't really shoot but he had a 2/1 A/TO as a freshman in the Big Ten.

Can't shoot would be putting it very politely.

His stats would even bring down NIU's shooting percentages, that is saying something!

Has anyone seen him play? Why is he looking to transfer? How do you know that he can't shoot ?

I wonder how much of a difference between B1G and MAC. Will his shooting be a little better?

A little, he shot 30% in Illinois' non-AQ games. Small sample size though.

Here's a rundown since I saw him all year:
- Good passer with outstanding vision.
- Can run the break fairly effectively and also isn't afraid to push the pace in transition. Gets the ball up the floor quickly.
- His shot is broken right now but I think it can be "fixed", especially since he'd have his redshirt year to work on it. It's a form issue. I don't think he's ever going to be a huge threat from 3 point range but can probably get himself to where he's about a 30% shooter from there.
- He's not assertive at all on offense; he's not going to score very much since he simply doesn't shoot the ball. He needs to play in an offense where he's not relied on to score much but rather facilitate for others.
- Severely lacking in strength. His A/TO ratio in B1G play was barely over 1:1 largely because he got pushed around. This can be improved.
- He's not a very good defender right now because of the strength issue I just mentioned. Again, strength can be improved.
- He's not overly quick or athletic.

RE: Jaylon Tate?
Tate would be a bench guy at NIU. Also, unless someone leaves there is no scholly.

RE: Jaylon Tate?
This isn't a full year old... this kid seems like he'd be a good true point guard. I wouldn't mind seeing him and Highsmith in the back court. Don't be so critical of a kid after his 1st year. Was he Big Ten talent, probably at one point, but I wouldn't mind him shaking off the dust and starting new at NIU. I like the direction our program is going and realistically a .500 or better finish would be amazing next year. Take the talent where you can get it.

Because he had a 2-1 A/TO ratio as a true freshman in the Big 10?

RE: Jaylon Tate?
4 phase delta, we have no schollys and don't need a point guard. Also, the expectations are much higher than 500 for next year. I will say anything under 18 wins is disappointing.

Doesn't everyone get better when they drop a level?

No that doesn't always make you better. It would be hard for Tate to get minutes at NIU. NIU is pretty solid at pg with, Baker, Orris and Balls.

RE: Jaylon Tate?
I would think for a team that avg 62pts/game.. they would take any help

Especially since:
Baker shoots .252 for 3pt and .320 on FG and Asst:TO ratio is 1.18
Balls shoots .229 3pT and .315 FG Asst:TO ratio is 1:1

Think he would fit in fine..since their stats were against MAC teams and his was B1G..

RE: Jaylon Tate?
On a team that averaged 15 turnovers to 7 assists per game, Tate wouldn't have any trouble finding playing time.

Not to mention Baker and Balls will be Seniors when Tate is a Sophomore...
