Buccaneer Favorite Five
Just for grins, if it were possible to fire-up a blue & gold time machine and cherry-pick the perfect Buc starting five and coach, who would make that list?

Here's my picks:
1. Mister Jennings (1991)
2. Harley Swift (1969)
3. Troy Lee Mikell (1983)
4. Mike Smith (2011)
5. Winfred "Kong" King (1983)
Coach: Alan LeForce ('90-'96)

Having seen all of those play except Swift, I agree completely. Tough choice between Troy Lee and Talford.

Greg Dennis was great. Absolutely great. But, believe it or not, "Kong" was even better. Plus, he was a MOUNTAIN of a man. Greg was a little on the thin side, where "Kong" was just freaking HUGE. He would have easily made a hobby of boxing-out Greg.

Somewhere on the picks, your going to have to back a few years, but Tom Chilton has to be added to this list. For those that don't remember him, check his records. Also Tommy Woods deserves some consideration.

Thank you. Swift was money! You know, I pondered Calvin as the 3 man on my Buccaneer "Dream Team." Definitely can't go wrong with either one. But, when I really thought about it, it just seems as though TLM could jump higher than Talford. I always enjoyed the straight-arm below-the-shoulder dunks Troy made on his break-aways. I'll also say this: his 360's, too, were much more common place than were Justin Tubbs'. Coach Hallihan used to call him "The Leaper" because, man..., that guy could FLY!!! He grabbed tons of rebounds and had a smooth jump shot as well.

Here's the Harley "Skeeter" Swift wiki page. It lists his pro stops from 31st pick in the 1969 NBA draft by Milwaukee, through the ABA, and wrapping up at the San Antonio Spurs. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harley_Swift

There are sooooo many Buccaneer greats! As long as I've been around, Tom actually payed before I arrived on the scene (1950's - early '60's?). Would you think he's better than Skeeter? I did see Tommy play, however. Would you maybe swap him and Mike Smith? Personally, just for my own list, I'm sticking to my picks. Mike Smith quite possibly could have played with more moxie than any player I've ever seen. That's a huge intangible that, so far, only shows up on our team once in a lifetime.

As unrealistic as it is, it's still fun to speculate. I'd love to read some other fan lists.

I know we were only blessed to have him for two years, but for me, Kevin Tiggs is in my Buccaneer Favorite Five. His skill set, his enthusiasm, fire, and most importantly, his smiling demeanor, made him one of my all-time favorites.

I'm with you on Tiggs. I'm a relative newcomer (started following Bucs in 2002-03 season), but Tiggs for sure stands as one of my all-favorites for his demeanor, and of course, his game. Wadood's probably my all time favorite, and the often-maligned Tim Smith sits on my list too.

With this current squad, I am huge fan of Rembert and AJ's won me over too with his Dennis Rodman-hustle.

Hard to choose a five without leaving off some all time greats. Chilton was before my time but my dad thought he was the best ever. Swift , Troy Lee, Fields etc were tough as nails.

As a Moc fan, I could make a list, but it would induce too much "throwing up a little in my mouth"

But, I can say without hesitation, Moc fan or not, Calvin Talford is one of my all-time favorite college basketball players.

(and arch rival or not, there is no way I can't show a lot of respect for Mister...I still have the Sport Illustrated article about him)

...and ironically, we were just talking about Greg Dennis tonight, thought admittedly we were talking about his hair cut, not his basketball ability. :)

Corrie Johnson

Slip Mitchell

Avery Marshall (not his fault, he was a nice guy, had classes with him but he was hurt from the day he walked on campus)

The kid from Texas, the one DeChellis brought with him from Penn St,
his first recruit. Supposed to be a Big 10 level recruit and open up Texas for us. Played in the band for 5 years on a basketball scholarship. Erskine Ana Not even going to try and spell his last name.

We were just talking about Greg Dennis at our house during the tournament .. they kept comparing this year's Kentucky Freshmen to Michigan's fab five.. the fab five knocked ETSU out of the tournament after we beat Arizona in 91 or 92?? We were talking about how those future millionaires got schooled by Greg.. He had.. I believe.. 31 points against them... he would have been one of those NBA millionaires if he could have ever gained weight.. he is one of the top all time scorers at ETSU.. over 2,000 points I believe..he could shoot the three .. had a great jump shot from anywhere around the basket.. I have seen all the BUCS mentioned except Chilton.. and Greg Dennis is without doubt one of the best ever!!!
