Mercer Men's LAX question?
It looks to me that if Mercer's Mens Lacrosse team wins either of their 2 remaining A-Sun games - @ Jax this Sat and Home vs. Furman next Sat, then they will win the Conference and get an auto-bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Any LAX experts out there who can confirm that?

Duke is a highly ranked LAX program....be pretty cool if the Bears were matched up with them again. Not sure the outcome would be quite as fun, but it would extend this great publicity Mercer has been getting.

Nope - I'm not correct - just figured it out for myself. If they lose to Jax, it's still up in the air....but IF they beat Jax, I think they will clinch. Anyway...maybe someone else knows the possibilities and can sort it out.

RE: Mercer Men's LAX question?
I tried to find this out myself as well. I think there is a conference tournament that is hosted by the top seed. That's what one of the A-sun pages said. The information on the LAX championship is minimal, we'll just have to wait and see.

RE: Mercer Men's LAX question?
Conference tourney is hosted by top seed. Mercer needs to win out to guarantee hosting the A-sun tourney. If they lose to Jville and HPU wins out they will have the tie breaker based on conference Away goal differential I believe and HPU will host. If Mercer Beats both Furman and Jville in the next two weeks, they are guaranteed to host.

Still think that if they beat JAX they will clinch #1 seed because FU has 2 conference losses already and MU would have beaten everyone else with 1 loss. If they lose to Jax and beat FU, I'm not sure what the tie-breakers would be. If they lose both, they have almost no chance of being top seed...and may not even make the conference tourney....possibly.

If this championship follows the women's format, only the Top 4 teams will play (#1 vs #4, #2 vs #3) on a Friday and the winners will play for the championship and the autobid on Sunday.

The A-Sun winner, if it is one of the 4 lowest ranked teams in the 18 team NCAA Tourney (10 autobids + 8 at-large bids), will then play a Play-In game...thinking the A-Sun winner - regardless of who it is...will fall into that category...then they get the 'gift' of playing one of the Top 2 seeds....of which Duke could be one of them. Long road for the Bears to get there....and reprise that Hoops game. Looks like Jax has played even or better with common opponents and my friends from Furman are convinced that they WILL win a league game this year; that the only reason they are winless so far has been their tough schedule. So...the LAX Bears will probably need to win 5 in a row just to 'really' get in the 'real' NCAA Tourney....Can Langston Hall & John Russ get sticks real quick-like?

RE: Mercer Men's LAX question?
LaxBears up 8-4 over Jax @ half

Furman (next Sat opponent) just won their 1st game ever over VMI 13-12 in 2 OT's - They will be fired up when they come to Macon next Sat. If Bears hang on against Jax, the outcome won't matter, but it will still be a big game for both programs.

Uh-oh - 8-7 now...very quick comeback by Jax in the 3rd period

Crap - now down 12-11 in the 4th

Bears blowholed by Dolphins in 2nd half and fall 14-12

FURMAN Game just became REAL BIG for the LaxBears

RE: Mercer Men's LAX question?
Huge game for our guys Saturday night at 7 against furman. If you are in town its supposed to be a good crowd. I'll be down on the sideline working come say hey. Tie breakers are still up in the air. We'll know a whole lot more after Sunday's Richmond vs. Jacksonville game. If Jacksonville wins the odds are Highpoint hosts the conference tourney. If Richmond wins We are on the fast track. GO SPIDERS GO BEARS

MACON, Ga. - With just two weeks left in the regular season, the top-seed is a two-team race between High Point and Mercer with tournament hosting opportunity on the line. Check out everything that can be decided this weekend.

This Weekend's Seeding Scenarios
** Scenarios below only account for actions that may be secured following play on April 19-20; update will be provided following each day of play the rest of the season.

High Point | Tournament berth clinched | Can finish as #1 or #2
#1 with Mercer loss
#2 with Mercer win AND Jacksonville loss

Mercer | Can finish as #1, #2 or #3
Clinch Tournament berth with win OR Jacksonville win (I think Mercer has already clinched a berth in the tourney...but what do I know...)
#1 with win AND Jacksonville loss

Jacksonville | Can finish as #2, #3 or not qualify (that's just for THIS week...if they win both of their remaining games and MU beats FU, it will be a 3 way tie for 1st with MU, HP, and JAX.....IMHO....but what do I know)
Clinch Tournament berth with a win

Richmond | Can finish as #2, #3, #4 or not qualify
Clinch Tournament berth with win AND Furman loss

Furman | Can finish as #2, #3, #4 or not qualify
No clinchings available this weekend

VMI | Can finish #4 or not qualify
Cannot clinch tournament berth this weekend
Eliminated from tournament consideration with Furman win OR Richmond win (I think they are already eliminated, but what do I know)

8.11 Tiebreaker. The tiebreaker format shall be as follows:
Compare tied teams' (two or more) won-loss percentage versus all teams involved in tie.
Compare goals surrendered in conference play versus all teams involved in tie.
Compare tied teams' won-loss percentage versus the top ranked team not involved in the tie, descending to the next highest placed team until an advantage is gained.
Non-conference RPI.

Goals surrendered in conference play
HP = 39 - Conf schedule complete - 7.8 goals/conf game
MU = 31 - 1 conf game to play - 7.75 goals/conf game, so far
Jax = 25 - 2 games to play - 8.33 goals/conf game, so far

...so, Mercer needs to win vs. FU and surrender 7 goals or less to hold the 1st tie-breaker over HP...AND...IF JAX beats RICH & FU, they need to surrender at least 7 TOTAL goals in BOTH games for MU to be ASSURED of winning the 1st tiebreaker over JAX OR 14 TOTAL goals in both games if MU surrenders 7 goals or less vs FU and wins....simple, right???

RE: Mercer Men's LAX question?
So....the way I see it...

#1 - Mercer
#2 - HP

If FU beats Jax this Sat, FU is #4 seed and plays Mercer @ Mercer on 5/1
#3 - UR - 3-2 if wins over VMI OR 2-3 if loses to VMI, but has a win over FU
#4 - FU - 2-3

If Jax beats FU AND UR beats VMI, Jax is #4 seed and plays Mercer
#3 - UR - 3-2 with a win over Jax
#4 - Jax - 3-2 with a loss to UR

If Jax beats FU AND VMI beats UR, UR is #4 seed and plays Mercer
#3 - Jax - 3-2
#4 - UR - 2-3

Agree?

Sounds right to me. The good news is our team isn't traveling for the tournament, and the last game is only up the road in Atlanta. A big advantage!

RE: Mercer Men's LAX question?
VMI was 17 seconds away from winning their only A-Sun game and making Richmond the #4 seed and Mercer's 1st round opponent (assuming Jax hangs on over FU 13-10 with 3 min left)...but Richmond scored. Headed to OT. Based on regular season scores, Richmond is the team that Mercer 'wanted' to play in Round 1. If Keydets lose in OT, Mercer will play Jax in Round 1. Jax is the only A-Sun team to beat Mercer in the regular season. GO KEYDETS!

Mercer won 11-7 on 2/22 in Macon.

HP vs. Jax on Thursday 5/1 @ 3:30 PM
Jax won 8-7 on 3/1 in High Point.

Winners play for NCAA Tourney berth on Sat 5/3 @ 1:00 PM

If you guys are in town please come out to the game thursday night. Richmond has improved over the past few months of the season. They can be dangerous. Come out and support the bears. Hopefully the weather is nice as well.

Tough way for the team to end the season. #4 Richmond won big in the semi-final over #1 seeded Mercer. I'm sure it's not easy to handle this loss, but they still have the regular season title to be proud of. It's a brand new program and they can continue getting better.
