I think this one is a winner. Great hire. He should be very successful at Ohio.

Good basketball hire. Can he keep players from transferring, or keep personalities from clashing? That will be his real challenge, early on.

RE: Ohio finds a coach
He's a passionate guy that's been to the dance in 09 and 14 which will go along with the players. Christian was so grumpy and downplayed high expectations so much that I think it frustrated some of the team. I don't see anyone that's already on the team transferring out and hopefully he can work some magic on the 4 recruits, especially Owens.

Overall, excited about next year and thankful to have a competent AD.

LakeBison or FargoBison or whatever your name is. Wait, i thought the MAC was scared of North Dakota State? Nope, we just take your coaches.

Please don't confuse me with that bozo.

Great hire for Ohio. The just upgraded coaches, Saul took a great core of players that Tim Miles left him to the big dance in 2009. They gave Kansas all they could handle.

He then rebuilt the program to mirror his style, tough defensive minded team that is very efficient offensively. It is a lot like Wisconsin, I'm guessing Bo's son Will Ryan will join him at Ohio.

Looks like Ohio upped the ante too, $550K/yr for 5yrs. Christian was $450/yr for 5yrs. Looks like Ohio just took the $500K Christian had to pay for bailing and rolled into the new guy's contract. Thanks Brad Bates.

Surprised a bigger program didn't grab Saul before we did. This guy has a pretty good resume for a guy coming into a MAC job. Coming off a round of 32 year in the NCAA tournament and we land him. Lot of questions about who is staying or not coming, but with Saul Phillips we got a good coach and that we right the ship. $550 a year is a nice chunk of change for a MAC coach.

Considering the quality of the coach hired and the short turnaround time since Christian left, I'm not sure Ohio could have done this any better than they did. This should go a long way in limiting defections and decommits.

I hope they actually get the buyout money, his buddy Geno still hasn't paid his to Kent State and it's been since 2011.

Good hire from OU's perspective, it's pretty clear that your AD had some candidates on speed dial once he heard that JC was on the way out. What style of basketball does he like to run?

I would guess that Jim Christian has enough brains (especially after the Geno Ford/Kent State incident) to make sure that BC commits to taking care of this as a condition of his employment. Geno wasn't smart enough to do that with Bradley and I would guess that Bradley and Geno regret what a distraction it has become (of course, it distracts from all that losing, so maybe that's a good thing).

I haven't followed the Ford/KSU issue at all - but how has he not paid his buyout? It's a cut and dry clause in his contract, isn't it? How has KSU not gotten it from him through the courts?

Geno was really dumb and didn't negotiate a buy-out or get Bradley to commit to paying for his buy-out before he took the Bradley job. He owed $1M per the contract (the buy-out was the salary of what remains and he was one year into a 5 year, $1.25 M contract), so you think he would have paid a little attention to it. Furthermore, the way he left pretty much insulted the Kent president who didn't feel much like negotiated and the whole thing is in the courts, where I think the next hearing is in June.

Like I said though, Geno was really dumb (we're talking Homer Simpson dumb). I doubt JC was that dumb to not get in the same trap.

Yea fargo bison your such a nerd.

Anyhow's saul phillips great person great personality comes from the Bo ryan coaching tree and bo's son WILL is going with him to Ohio U as top assistant.

Now the bad news, we call it saul ball, pretty boring Wisconsin stuff over the years, the Oklahoma game won in ncaas was all the point guard & a true freshman. That's the only signature win in 4 years. He did what's right up doubled his salary. But he isn't Tim Miles
