B) What if Josh had been quoted with the opposite: "These players didn't really do anything. It's my brilliant coaching that wins games." I don't think that would have flown well, either. The truth is that it's obviously somewhere in the middle and clearly Josh knows that because he has spoken publicly about the off-season learning he does interacting with other coaches and working to improve his coaching/strategy. He's pushed for the best staff he can get and pays them well. It's not like he gets the recruiting class signed and then says, "OK, we're done." He said that quote, sure, but his meaning and intention are proven clear by the actual ACTIONS that occur through the season.

Yup...I figure the Goal of the present administration is to provide for the future. If big boosters start calling the kind of shots solely based on a national Championship...perhaps there are other boosters out there with more insight.

Not saying the future includes CJP, not saying it doesn't....I'm just sayin

This is an interesting point. With high school kids able to go straight to the pros during cals first five years, his teams did not produce as we had hoped. When that rule changed cal prospered.

Now the dilemma. Pastner has recruited significantly better in his first five than cal did but his results aren't significantly better.

Which leads me back to the question. If he stops getting great recruits, where does that lead our program given his average/still developing coaching ability?

It's definitely a question worth pondering.

So, if we were still under the old recruiting rules... Which of Josh's recruits would have gone straight to the NBA?

Thomas definitely, possibly Barton, although the questions about his size may have kept him out.

Many posters have said our players are overrated and not as good as their rankings. So what happens in a situation where your coach doesn't have the initiative to become a better coach, and the players he's recruiting aren't 'great', and you take a step up in the level of conference competition?

Sounds like a recipe for disaster.

One line taken from a conversation where CJP was trying to make a point about recruiting.

I think you hate Pastner minions fail to understand something key to the Character of Josh. He says a lot of things that deflect attention from himself and tries constantly to give credit to the assistant coaches and players and fans and school administrators.

Do really think that somebody who has always aspired to be a coach and win championships fails to understand how key the head coach is to a winning program?

So the vocal few haters can keep coming up with a ton of aliases to spout the same old drivel like this post but it changes nothing about who is our coach. It does however drain away positive things that are happening every day.

I certainly think he has some growing to do but I also think the investment made in his youth will pay off big very soon and for a long time.

I also understand something key to understanding human nature. If you stick a microphone under a person's nose enough they will say something that comes off a little odd or strange or wrong or obscene or crazy. And if you read written reports of interviews enough you will see time and time again that extractions of comments can be applied in many ways, positive or negative or neutral. And if you turn anonymous crazy people loose on a message board there is no limit to the vile that can be spewed.
