Played in the old KVA, wish it would stick and not dissolve.

Although, a 24 member SAC could have it's advantages.

Yes but "old" KVA began going way of the white buffalo when it lost Mattywan and Two Paws, let in Schoolcraft, Consty, Pennfield et al.

Student taught at Parchment (KVA), taught and coached at Martin (SAC) and Watervliet (Red Arrow?).

I thought the conference alignments made sense geopgraphically though Decatur was a bit of ride from Martin and Galien from Watervliet. Of course that was back in the double digit inflation days and when gas was breaking $1.00 a gallon so folks were cutting back on travel expenses keeping road games to a minimum.

Some of the conference affiliations are head scratchers considering mileage and gas prices.

Some Volleyball teams are going to be on the bus longer than on the court for weeknight matches.

Heard K Christian & Hackett also merge their football teams starting this fall.

As someone that has coached a combined football program for a few years it is awfully difficult. Having both head coaches involved will help maybe but it was really difficult for two rivals to become teammates. Best of luck but we didn't get good until we got rid of the other school. Plus if they are good they will be played way up in the playoffs.

It's a horrible horrible idea.

I think the co-op was done out of desperation. Both school's numbers were getting so low that they were not competitive many games and edging closer to having to discontinue the sport altogether.

Hackett had to drop their JV team mid-season last Fall, didn't have one at all in '12.

the more I think about co-op...the more I think it will end very badly for both schools.

Sorry to hear about the KVA, its a historic conference. My daughter played for GA in the KVA and had a blast.

In 2000, Hackett's enrollment was 468. Now it's 287. Their last winning season ('05) the school was at 469.

Christian had 445 in '00, will be 246 this year. When they went 11-1 in '08 enrollment was 398.

You can't lose those kind of numbers without it being felt in Football.

Alternative is a lot of private school kids not getting to play HS Football or going to a public and taking their tuition money with them to do so.

Would the MHSAA make an exception if Hackett or K-Christian didn't offer football and allow their students to play at a public school. Whatever district they live in? Or a specified school that is local?

Hockey and swimming come to mind. I believe both have had student athletes compete for other schools. Although Hockey might be the Eagles/Blades. Swimming was with Loy Norrix if I remember correctly.

The MHSAA has limitations on Co-ops by combined enrollment and sport.

I don't believe a student attending Hackett or Christian could play Football for a KPS or PPS team unless granted a waiver by Representative Council, which might've been the case in Swimming you cited.

Football is such a different animal when it comes to winning. True co ops have a tough time winning. I didn't realize their enrollments had shrunk that much. We played Hackett years ago in a jv game and they had a rough time with our little jv team blowing their doors off. Think it was 2003.

Hackett has had a co-op with Heritage Christian Academy for a number of years. That school has 111 kids it. The problem was most of those kids played soccer. I think the most Heritage sent Hacketts way for football was 5 or 6 in one season.

I think Hackett and K-Christian would send a similar number of football players to a public school if they were to co-op. The true number of football players would dwindle even more because of the travel issue to another school and the likely increase of fellow players being competitive and not having as much playing time.
