College Hoops Arena Rankings
So, this should give you some fodder to complain :)

http://www.stadiumjourney.com/news/03-28...kings-2014

Honestly, JMU ranked ahead of ODU?

RE: College Hoops Arena Rankings
For those wanting to skip down to them, JMU is 172, ODU is 184. You have to click on it to read the full write-up.

Realizing this is just one person's opinion, I was surprised at the names of those ranked higher than ODU as I was scrolling down.

It's not even that it's just one person's opinion. They clearly haven't been to a game at every arena, it's a made up list.

Sadly, good taste is not something everyone has.

RE: College Hoops Arena Rankings
Many of the guy's complaints aren't much different from what we see here: Half-full arena, half-full student section, quiet, non-responsive students, band that can't be heard at the opposite end from where they play. I'm not comparing our place with the others ahead of us; I don't care. But we've got a ways to go to reclaim a consistent, high-energy environment. That starts with the Athletic Department and continues to students, younger alumni. I think the grey part of our fanbase not only is solid, it's carrying things. Not sure of the answers to those things, though would suggest to can the canned music and let the damn band play

John Paul Jones is 192? Serious credibility problems here!

JPJ is awesome. They have a great environment - surrounding area is beautiful - quality team, students, and band. This guy is a fool.

JPJ and ODU compared with the convo at JMU isnt even close. convo sucks.

RE: College Hoops Arena Rankings
When I followed the ranking further down and got to Upstate, I lol'd

Jason Bullock did the ODU review.

He also did the JMU review.

One of the categories is neighborhood. The closest thing he mentions fans visiting the Ted may be interested in is Yorktown and Williamsburg 45 minutes away. I guess there's absolutely nothing in Southside Hampton Roads to visit. The Virginia Zoo, maybe? The Virginia Aquarium? Nauticus? Chrysler Museum? Ghent restaurant district? Macarthur Center??

JMU does have a Walmart next to their arena.

Read this....

Final Thoughts

If you live in the area and haven't been out to support your local team, what are you waiting for? JMU offers a family-friendly and affordable experience, and I look forward to catching another game in the future.

He gave JMU 3 stars on extras and gave us 1. All because the ushers talked to him and smiled. Oh and he got a free program too. lol

The guys that do these surveys are all the same. They rank all of the popular, well known arenas at the top and the rest they just draw out of a hat.

RE: College Hoops Arena Rankings
The only thing that annoys me about the Ted is the dark flight stairs you have to climb before getting to the actual arena. I'm physically fit so no potential heart attack, but I'm sure our first time visitors weren't aware that they had to go through a short cardio workout before getting to the actual arena.

Most arenas have the arena bowl sunken. Here, you have to climb up, then climb down to your seats, then climb up again after the game, then down to exit the building.

I know Norfolk has flood issues. but I don't think the Scope ever had a problem and its' bowl is below ground level.

I could be mistaken, but I think street level at Scope is between upper and lower bowls. I'm pretty sure that excavating for the Ted would have added quite a bit to the pricetag. There are some elevators available for those who can't make the trek.

i like the selections that the band play. I hate the canned music and then the band plays quickly before the time out ends. I also hate some of the time out/halftime deals that we do. I know that corporate sponsors are important but when bobby hollywood tells everyone to get out their VIC card out I go nuts. I would replace bobby with the heavy guy in the corner who takes his shirt off. That guy really gets the place rocking.

This list is ridiculous. It has SC Upstate ahead of Cameron and Assembly Hall. There is not credibility to any of this.

RE: College Hoops Arena Rankings
I posted this on the CUSA board, but wanted to post here as well.

Stadium Journey...College Basketball Arena Rankings. Sorry gang, this is comical and sad.

# 15 G.B. Hodge Center - Home of the USC Upstate Spartans

The Hodge Center is...well, let's just call it "intimate". The arena seats 818 fans, which means that just about everyone is going to get a great seat to see the action. The only seats with a questionable view are those behind the hilarious Spartan Army, the Upstate student section. The Spartan Army stands throughout the game and certainly makes their presence felt. The students are small in numbers, but quite loud in volume.

Has anyone here ever been there? I have, 03-lmfao

# 51 Draddy Gymnasium - Home of the Manhattan Jaspers

Draddy Gymnasium has a very intimate atmosphere, but is in a very large building. The gym seats 2,345 for basketball, but Draddy Gym itself has a full track, batting cages and a basketball arena all under the same roof. One of the coolest things about seeing a game there is when you're walking in, the Jaspers cheerleaders are lined up behind the ticket-taker, and actually cheer you like a player when you're walking in. @ Yep that makes it a top gym.... yahoo!

#99 Bryce Willett Hall - Home of the Longwood Lancers
After running on the Independent circuit in Division I from 2007-2011, Longwood accepted the Big South Conference’s invitation in January 2012 to become the 12th member of the conference. The Lancers are excited and focused to start this new chapter in their athletic department’s history, as they break into a Division I conference and look to start some new traditions and history as a Big South member. The Lancers play their home games at Henry I. Willett Jr. Hall, often shortened to just Willett Hall. Built in 1980, the venue looks like any other building from the outside and isn’t very big on the inside, seating just over 1,800. This qualifies it as a top 100 03-lmfao

I may have some partiality with this next one but I have to include it on the list as one of Mr. Swaney's...... "I have never seen it but lets just play Wheel of Fortune" Spinnnnnn that wheel and the number is #184 Ok!

# 184 Constant Convocation Center - Home of the Old Dominion Monarchs
If you have a chance to catch the Monarchs at home, don't pass it up. The Ted Constant Convocation Center is a quality arena in which to see a game, and you will definitely get your money's worth. Mr. Swaney is a masterful wizard of few words.... "What do you want me to say, I have never been there"

#192 John Paul Jones Arena - Home of the Virginia Cavaliers
As with all buildings at the university, John Paul Jones Arena is constructed using Jeffersonian principles and architecture. This gorgeous arena is yet another architectural gem on the grounds of the University of Virginia, and a must for any college basketball fan visiting the Commonwealth of Virginia. Yea, I see it, this $131,000,000 14,593 seat state of the art show place that is described as an architectural gem, and gorgeous, is not in the top 190 in the country.

What in the world is Paul Swaney's priorities. When he ranks the Hodge Center with its 853 fans at #15, and when the ticket-takers and Cheerleaders actually cheer you like a player as you walk in to the Gym, and that qualifies Draddy's Gymnasium to be ranked at # 51. However, the one that takes the cake for me and convinces me Mr. Swaney's is whack-a-do is when he claims a venue looks like any other building from the outside and isn’t very big (the 1,800 seat Willett Hall at Longwood #99) yet is ranked 100 places higher than UVA's John Paul Jones Arena. He himself described JPJ as one of the country's most gorgeous arenas and an architectural gem.

I would suggest you use Stadium Journey Magazine for kindling in your next fire. NO, go ahead and burn it now.
