I condemn what happened at Mozilla. But it shouldn't be any more or less acceptable for Christus Hospital to do the same thing to liberal employees.

So you admit the gay is your religion. Is that what I'm getting from this?

No. What I'm saying is that justifying discrimination in non-theological employment based upon the mission of a private religion is no different than justifying discrimination in non-theological employment based upon the mission of a private club or company.

Uhhhh, okay. so you don't have a problem with discrimination. gotcha.

Actually I DO have a problem with discrimination. I think Mozilla acted inappropriately in this case. But I also feel that this issue should be based upon principles that are of my choosing

That's what you really mean.

Judicial branch appointments have to be approved by the legislative branch and are under no obligation to agree with either the executive branch or the legislative branch.

My source is the US Constitution. What's yours?

I think you are misunderstanding what we mean by control. Your biggest downfall is that you still think things work like they are supposed to.

The biggest violator. nationally..The Roman Catholic Church, through its school systems, its TAXPAYER funded hospitals, and its TAXPAYER funded social work programs.

Why should it be any more acceptable for Christus Health or the Archdiocese of Chicago Schools or Catholic Charities (funded to the tune of 4 BILLION last year of taxpayer grants) to fire someone for being in support of Gay rights (or to be Gay) than for a Gay supportive company to fire someone for not being Gay supportive?

There's no way that someone can credibly condemn what happened at Mozilla (which I do) and accept what happens at Christus or Catholic Charities. Or the Salvation Army's social work jobs, the History department at Baylor University, etc.

In short, what happened at Mozilla was wrong. But its miniscule compared to what happens to thousands of people on the other side of the coin.

So many thing wrong with this post i don't know where to begin. Yes i understand tax dollars do go to catholic hospitals but because medicare and medicaid patients go their. If they want a procedure that the hospital wont do then they can go to a public hospital.

I don't understand why you would want to get rid of these perfectly good charities, schools and hospitals. I can guarantee you, if the government forced the hospitals to preform surgeries/procedures that the Catholic churches disagree with, they are going to shut down. then all you are doing is adding stress on a already stressed public hospital system.

Meaning that no one in non-theological employment should face employment or service discrimination based upon their participation in the political process.

Then sounds to me like you oughta start by cleaning up your own backyard.

Uh, those hospitals are BUILT with taxpayer funds. And many of them enjoy protection from another hospital opening up in the area. So that Catholic hospital was given to the church and then there are prohibitions on opening up another hospital to compete with them (and allow Gays to be able to be employed).

It goes well beyond medicare reimbursement.

Again, if you wish to argue that some entities can discriminate on the basis of political activity, sexual orientation and religion in their employment in non-theological jobs, then you shouldn't complain when a private company discriminates in hiring based upon the same criteria.

Your principle of job duties is flawed in both practice and theory. Yet you cling to this demonstrably wrong-headed notion.

So you think Mozilla acted appropriately in this case? If not, then why do you think that it is any more acceptable for The Salvation Army to discriminate in hiring a social worker to administer a taxpayer funded grant than for Mozilla to fire a CEO because he didn't mesh with the company's corporate culture?

Your position is inconsistent and logically untenable.

Religion does not stop with Theology Tom, thats what you don't get..

The principle should be one of job duties. Being a Math teacher or a janitor at Baylor doesn't fall under religious instruction. Neither does being a hospital administrator.

There is *** 0 *** Legal preceident or historical indicatiors that such a line was ever intended by the founding fathers.

Again, if you wish to argue that some entities can discriminate on the basis of political activity, sexual orientation and religion in their employment in non-theological jobs, then you shouldn't complain when a private company discriminates in hiring based upon the same criteria.

When have I?

The only body which should be forbidden from using any criteria they wish is the government...

But even though I beleive in true freedom I still disagree that a church run college and an investment bank are fundimentally the same thing.

Uh, that's been you who has been complaining. 01-wingedeagle

I think Mozilla acted foolishly but not illegally.. Is that clear enough?
