2012 Big East?

Not one team ranked in the AP Top 10?

Only one team ranked in the AP Top 25?

vs

UCF ranked in the AP Top 10

TWO teams ranked in the AP Top 15 (UCF & UL)

There is no getting around the fact that the bottom half absolutely sucked.

Agree...as most in the bottom half in Big East in 2012 sucked...plus, there wasn't one great team in the conf that year...as there were four co-champs with just 5 conf wins.

I think the 2013 versions of UCF, UL and Cinci would have beaten ANY Big East Team version in 2012.

Why do you keep posting the same "two teams ranked in the top 15" nonsense when I've already posted the Sagarin ratings?

Sagarin accounts for the whole conference, not just two teams. The Big East of 2012 was clearly better than the AAC this past year. Good Lord. 07-coffee3

There is no getting around the fact that the bottom half absolutely sucked. And it's not sour grapes - three of the bottom half were in the BE the prior year. Plus, one of those three beat us - soundly. So, I definitely have no right to really complain. But facts are facts nonetheless.

I wonder if Rutgers, UConn, USF, and Temple retained their Sagarin ratings from 2012 in 2013, how the 2013 AAC would compare to the 2012 Big East. Maybe someone can calculate that. It doesn't seem like the new schools dragged down the AAC too much. It was ironically mostly BE schools (USF, Temple, UConn)

Great point...as the 4 CUSA schools did pretty darn good in their first (and only year) of a BCS Conf:

UCF 8-0 (Conf Champs)
Houston 5-3
SMU 4-4
Memphis 1-7

Only Memphis was under .500 in conf play...as 4 out of the bottom 5 teams in AAC came from the Big East in 2012.

Probably because when I look at ESPN.com, Foxsports.com, Cbssports.com, nbcsports.com, etc....and look under polls/rankings, I don't see anything about some saggy rating...as its the POLLS that are listed and what most fans/media refer to when discussing top teams.

Homer's 'critical thinking skills' have him on the side that harps meaninglessly about 2 teams in the AP top 15. :(

Obvious facts do not need to be posted...but to the few, the above might help.

PS. I can't wait to see ESPN's "Sagarin" daily show later this summer/fall!

That would make sense, if the issue was which conference had the highest ranked team in those respective years.

But no, the issue was which conference was better, the big east in 12 or aac in 13, which makes your harping about two teams in the top 15 ..... silly to begin with, and now just plain dumb because you cling to it even after your error was pointed out for you.

What would be the point in that? As we saw on 30 for 30, the Big East is dead. Just like the SWC.
I chose this screen name because it was on the letterhead when my programs accepted membership into what has evolved into the AAC. There's no reason to change the moniker, just because we sold the logo to a new league. It's a vintage moniker, much like my old Unitas Baltimore Colts jersey. Seeing UCONN in the Final Four tonight makes me even prouder of our conference lineage, BearcatJerry.

Idiot. Every conference gets judged by their standard bearers.

So when Utah won the Sugar Bowl in 2009, everyone regarded the MWC as a 'major' Big Boy conference, right? Because their "standard bearer" beat Alabama in a BCS bowl? 01-wingedeagle

Please stop with all this stupid nonsense. If you don't like Sagarin, then pick some other measure out there, but they won't do you much good either.

Any way you slice it that isn't completely stupid (like picking the top 2 teams) will tell you the Big East in 2012 was clearly better than the American in 2013.

I said this a long time ago. Some still don't get that. Houston and SMU have been wandering in the wilderness a long time. I can't imagine there is a lot of patience from them for any whining. Especially from fans of an upstart such as USF.

That's a straw man argument.

We are comparing the AAC to the Big East. WTF are you talking about now with the MWC/SEC comparison?

I think you just like saying "Big boy"... Maybe that's a kinky southern thing.

If you don't think it was significant that we won a BCS Champion vs Champion game with the Big 12, than that's fine. You can live in your own little world and stay there.

Why would that matter. Certain schools did not move ahead just being in the club. It will not change that perspective of being in a supposed inferior conference.

You invited the argument when you dumbly claimed that conferences are judged by their 'standard bearers'. All I did was knock that softball out of the park where it belongs. And I did it without comparing the MWC to SEC, the SEC was only referenced as the conference of the team that the MWC rep beat in the BCS game. Could have been any other conference they beat in that BCS game and the point would be the same.

Bottom line: All the objective indicators of conference strength show that the Big East of 2012 was clearly a better football conference than the AAC was this past season. Just learn to live with it and move on. 07-coffee3
