That's OK that's means the coach is winning. Just like NIU in football. The MAC is either a launching pad or graveyard for coaches.

+1.. The exception seems to be Solich, who seems content on staying at Ohio for his career.

Why would any AQ program want Solich?

Previous experience.. People forget how well he did at Nebraska..problem was he followed Osborne which is impossible.. Callahan was worse and Pellini hasn't done anything.
Solich's 58 wins during his first six seasons as Nebraska's head coach exceeded those of his predecessors, Bob Devaney (53 wins) and Osborne (55 wins), both of whom are in the College Football Hall of Fame

But he is old and AQs dont hire non-Sabanesk old coaches...and under him Ohio has had some big end of the season meltdowns giving many disappointing seasons overall.
Really he has won 3 big games at Ohio. Penn St and 2 Bowl games vs non-AQ teams. Other than that there is nothing better than some wins over Marshall, ULL or UNT that you can point out as a win worthy of an AQ job.
If money was no problem would you hire a lawyer who was hot 10 years ago but had a mediocre run recently or one who has been hot for the past 3-5 years?

The window has closed on Solich, but you're not giving him anywhere near enough credit.

Did not realize that, Ohio obviously got themselves a steal.

66-50 at Ohio including 3 MAC East titles in 9 years, 6 winning seasons, 2 losing and and a 6-6. Has not had a losing season since 2008. Ohio has won 2 of their last 3 bowl games. If anyonelse but a coach his age compiled those numbers they would have got an AQ offer by now. He will be 70 on 9/8 so he took over the Ohio job the year he turned 61. 66 wins BTW is more than double the number of wins NIU had in the decade of the 90's(32) 24 more than in the 70's(42), 10 more than in the 80's (56) and only 2 less than in the 00's (68).

I bet he gets offers, but just isn't interested in rebuilding a lower level team(Wake forest types).. Similar to Peterson at Boise St for years and the guy at Kansas St.

Solich is to Ohio what Novak was to NIU.
Solich's age will keep him at Ohio until he is ready to retire asked to do so.

The interesting thing to me is they are paying $550K a year for the new coach, $100K more than Christian. Ohio is slowly putting some distance on the league in coaching salaries in both football and basketball. By comparison, BG's new coach signed on for $325K annually.

Groce went to Illinois in 2012. You could say that's 2 coaches in 2 years....or 3 if you prefer.

Christian had a $500K buyout clause in his contract so that extra $100K/yr for 5yrs for the new coach is courtesy of Jim Christian and Boston College. What's funny is if BC had waited 30 days the buyout dropped to $250K. Rumor is the new OU coach's buyout is even larger.

This is why a contract extension and raising the buy-out for NIU's Montgomery is a good idea. Its obvious he is going to deliver and the offers will follow.

All MAC coaches should have huge buyouts...whats the risk..they suck you fire them, somebody poaches them then you have the money to cover the previous coaches total salary..
I would do 2-3 year equivalents of salary buyouts.. So if a coaches salary is $350k, I am asking for at least $700k buyout minimum..
