Was this list put together partly based on atmosphere, etc? I ask because clearly arenas like Worthen at BSU is better than Millett and isn't EMU's relatively Convocation Center Arena very nice as well?? NIU's arena is pretty new, too, but rather utilitarian inside.

EMU's is very nice, much moreso than BG's. No mention is made of anything about Stroh except it's new and seating capacity. One wonders if someone just drove by since no mention is made of layout, amenities, crowd noise, etc.

And I'm not sure a sound system can really be much better than the one in Savage Arena. It's clear and the place rocks when it's turned up. I'm used to going to Bulls games (the Chicago breed) and UT's sound system seems the same if not better to me.
BTW, is that KSU's basketball arena in Axeme's signature? If so, it looks like a cool place from the outside.
Yes that is the MACC in that picture and while the place is old I do think they have managed to keep it looking nice.
That is one thing many are missing form these rankings it is a composite of many factors that many of us don't think about but can be important for a visiting fans experience. For example Kent gets high marks for its down town which gives a lot of stuff for before and after the game (and that has gotten even better than when this group went there). Even a smaller venue can be more fun than a larger one. I wish I could find an article but there was a major basketball coach that was talking about how intense he found smaller venues and sometimes he would want to play in a smaller venue due to that intensity even though he knew it wasn't going to happen. There is a limit to that effect but I know that at Kent if the place is packed and the crowd is into it it is a very intimidating place to play because it gets hot, crazy loud, and as one opposing player said the fans are right on top of you.
Makes for a great experience and since it sounds like the Kent evaluation took place at a Cleveland State game that was a game that was very much like that. This rings me to my last point that some of these ranking for better and for worse are probably influenced greatly depending on what game the group got to watch. Kent vs, YSU, CSU, Ohio, or Akron will probably bring up high scores whereas if they saw Kent vs a lower division team would probably get lower scores.

Kansas is 6th? How is Memphis' better than the temple that built basketball.
Because its a quarter billion dollar NBA arena sitting on world famous Beale Street.
Nothing better than Blues City Cafe ribs before the game, cocktails on the club level at FedExForum, and dancing the night away at BB Kings after a big win over Louisville.

that game was in Houston...so I wouldn't know...they also beat UConn, who plays in the Final Four today...so I don't really see the point of that comment.

Oops, schedule I saw had it as a home game. Pick a home loss then. The point was just a needle after a bit of puffery.

UConn...punks beat us twice at home.
with these ranking it's all in "what's important to you?"
if you're a traditionalist: the Palestra, Hinkle, Gallagher Iba, Cameron, etc will be high on your list.
if it's all about the amenities, places like: FedExForum, Bradley Center, KFC YUM Center, Verizon Center, Wells Fargo Center, MSG, etc will be high on your list.
Love how the YUM center is pretty much a professional basketball arena but not in the top 10. Comparing that place to any standard college basketball arena isn't even close.

or maybe its because its the only thing to do in Memphis?
NBA arenas have never been great for college basketball atmosphere. Maybe Im wrong since Ive never actually BEEN to Memphis' arena.

I can tell.
Beale Street? Overton Square? Cooper-Young? more live music than you could ever hope to take in...more BBQ places than your cholesterol can stand?
if you can't have fun in Memphis, there's no hope for you.
if you have a few minutes, the Tulsa radio announcer gives a tour of FedExForum. (only 8 mins)
