I stopped reading once I saw who #1 was -- if this were best barns, I would go with Rupp at #1....

No way, man! Cassell Coliseum is in the top 200 at least!

RE: Arena rankings
Those are some pretty ridiculous rankings. VMI and Liberty have the best arenas in VA? The author really loves the Big South conference.

This is too based on who's playing well now I also think Littlejohn is a bit underrated that's a great venue for a ball game

RE: Arena rankings
Their review of the Pete, particular the neighborhood, is a little strange.

"Students and fans are everywhere before the game, whether it is cooking out in the chilly weather or scalping tickets."

I've never seen anyone cooking out for basketball, ever.

"The area does not have a huge variety of restaurants, but it gets the job done. With Oakland being a popular weekend destination for local college students, most places are small pizza joints or sports bars. However, one restaurant I love in the area is Thai Hana. It is a delicious Thai restaurant and it is only about a quarter mile from the Peterson Events Center. Pittsburgh Popcorn Company is another wildly popular spot if you want to try some gourmet popcorn."

Pittsburgh Popcorn Company is wildly popular? What? I don't think they actually spent any time in Oakland. There are more food options than the vast majority of college campuses and there aren't actually that many sports bars.

RE: Arena rankings
I would almost bet this person hasn't been to all these venues and based a big portion due to second hand information. I just have a hart time seeing some of these schools ahead of the Yum Center home of the Louisville Cardinals. There is no way Rape Arena should be number 1 unless they are stating the best place to get screwed then yes it is.

RE: Arena rankings
Well he mentions the old scoreboards in Cassell instead of the new ones and seems to imply that not having them hanging from the center is an issue although there are a lot more in front of VT that have smaller, older scoreboards on the ends of their gymnasiums...not even arenas.

This list is a joke. Rupp Arena is loud and obnoxious during games but that's about all you can say for it. If that is his opinion of #1 it's no wonder we are so low. Yet every crew that comes here to work a game raves about how awesome the place is and they haven't been anywhere like it in college basketball. Whatever dude --

[i know I'm biased, but the Yum! Center is the best arena in college basketball.

RE: Arena rankings
List instantly useless based upon putting USC Upstate at #15. I say that as a fan and alumni. You don't get to be #15 in the country seating less than 1,000 with no permanent fixed seats in a building trying desperately to hold the gym, the weight room, the robotics lab, the CS department, CS labs, math labs, and the math department ... and bursting at the seams from it. Upstate should have been green lit to build a Convocation Center ... but the chickens in Columbia wouldn't allow it. Appropriately they lost to Upstate in men's hoops this year in Columbia to Upstate.

RE: Arena rankings
I was reading the MWCBoard.com forum and someone said one of the listings was bad because the name was generic, but if you can get past the generic name, its a pretty decent facility. We're judging the quality of buildings now on the name? Give me a break, this is a hack job list.

This writer doesn't have a clue. The only redeeming factor about coRuppt Arena is the exit doors. That place is an aluminum garbage can surrounded by a rundown strip mall. Even uk fans don't want to go there, supported by their inflated attendance numbers.

If Rupp was #1, then why does UK want to renovate it so badly. I have been there. You are packed in like sardines! ???

RE: Arena rankings
Reducing seats at Commonwealth Stadium to make it more fan friendlier is the dumbest thing I read in a while for their games rarely sellout and you have you choice of seats that is if you go. Now for Rape Arena they will not reduce the seating capacity in that barn for nothing that is their bread and butter and everyone knows it. That would make the logical choice to make something fan friendlier than reducing seats at a football stadium that no one goes to. What a backward ass of stupidity that resides there in lessington kentucky home of the slapdicks of college basketball.

Even I would'nt rate the Carrier Dome #2. It is great for big games but blah for middling and crappy games.
