CUSA vs A10 & Charlotte
I know its like comparing apples and oranges, but Charlotte is a team that has a recent connection with both conferences. I am about to make a comparison. I have not researched the facts, I am going from memory.

I believe Charlotte's last season in the A10 they ended up in eighth place in basketball and the conference placed 3 teams in the NCAA.
This year with what was suppose to be a stronger team and with 2 wins against P5 teams, Charlotte ended up ninth in CUSA and the conference placed one team in the NCAA.

Charlotte's record in the A10 was better the last year than this year and I believe they received an NIT invite. Someone please correct me if I am wrong. I know CUSA needs to and will strengthen their OOC schedule. But IMHO at least 2 teams this year from CUSA deserved an invite to the NCAA.

RE: CUSA vs A10 & Charlotte
It was supposed to be a stronger team but it wasn't because of so much turnover. When you lose 4 rotation players unexpectedly (EVN & Clark to transfer, Mayfield kicked off the team midyear, and Benny to injury) and a key player (Braz) to graduation you can't really compare our performances in the two leagues.

RE: CUSA vs A10 & Charlotte
In my opinion the A-10 was a better basketball conference. This year our strong start and OOC strength completely fell apart in CUSA play with the pre-mentioned turnover of players. Then those struggles coupled with a bunch of opponents people really had no interest or knowledge of hurt attendance down the stretch and the overall strength of the program this season.

Not sure we can blame it on player turnover as we did beat Kansas State and Michigan with the same players we lost to UTSA, etc, with. It's another type of turnover that did us in and that's our players actually being incapable to hold onto the friggin' ball.

The A10 is better. That being said, CUSA has the potential with the new mix of teams, to be a 2 bid conf.

The A10 is a much better conference than both CUSA and the AAC.

Once LVille is gone, it will be most evident. UConn/Cincy will likely be pulled into the AAC IMHO

"POTENTIAL" to be a 2-bid conference??????? That's our "potential"??? I think you might be confusing the new CUSA w/ the new AAC after there's another mass exodus from that conference and all yall are stuck w/ just Memphis and Temple.

Are you kidding me?? With USM, UTEP, UAB, La Tech, ODU, Charlotte, WKU, MTSU, and Marshall (once they get a better coach). Now that we aren't having to play bad RPI teams like ECU and Tulane added w/ the fact that our AD's are getting together to have more scheduling requirements conference-wide......I think we could potentially have 4-7 bids a year.

If I were a UNCC fan, I would be up in arms over CUSA. UNCC could survive as an FBS independent with basketball, etc. in the A10. I guess maybe Memphis was around when they came back to CUSA...?

Nope, Memphis was already gone.

The problem is we couldn't be an FBS independent because we were not already an FBS team. None of the local FCS conferences wanted us unless we agreed to join as a full member. We sure as **** weren't leaving the A10 to go park all our sports in the Southern Conference, Big South, or CAA.

CUSA was really the only realistic option.

With the additions of more similar schools to the A10 (southernish, large, public universities) and the success of the A10 recently, some parts of me hate that we even added football. I'd love to be a a basketball league with VCU. When we were in the A10, Richmond was the only school that was a reasonable drive. Now there are three. Four if you count Davidson, but they took our spot, so it is reasonable to assume they wouldn't be there if we hadn't left.

Very good info, thanks! And I had that same thought about the football addition... it's just so damned futile these days. Could be useful for getting into the ACC or AAC one day, I guess. So you've got that going for you, which is nice.

RE: CUSA vs A10 & Charlotte
With better scheduling CUSA should be a consistent 2 bid and sometimes 3 bid league. Hopefully this year was a fluke. The A10 is a good league, but if St. Louis and Dayton leave as has been long rumored (though where do they go other than Big East?) it loses a bit of luster. As an ODU fan, I would actually like it a lot just to be back in a conference with our rivals. The ODU/VCU rivalry is one of the best in the country. Being in a conference with VCU, GMU, Richmond and GW again would be great because as fans we could drive to all of them. In CUSA we cant drive to anyone without a night in a hotel and a 6-7 hour drive. Happy to be here for football, and its better than the CAA, but the geography really does suck for those of us in VA now that ECU is gone. At least Charlotte is a bit more central to the rest of the league.
