Either way, I'm keeping my old one for as long as I can.

This is exactly why I didn't renew with the NAS for years, and openly criticized them here. To their credit, bc of my criticism, I was contacted by multiple representatives and assured that things have changed.
This is the 2nd post of this nature I've seen recently. It saddens me that many years later, others are having a similar experience to the one that originally caused me to leave (although I have recently rejoined).
It's worth noting that several designs (with dragon logo) were rejected by the state office.
I'll buy the tag, not because I like it (I don't at all), but because I will support UAB's scholarship fund. Like it or not, a "protest" against an ugly tag will only hurt UAB students and their NAS scholarships.

Renewing the old tag is still contributing to the scholarship fund. At least I hope so. It's still costing me the extra money.

Then just donate the money directly with a note that the new tag sucks.

Close enough.
Then neither of you read the post.
It is about a state whose Revenue Dept. chokes on sending $35 to $40 per "vanity" tag to any out of state school while the same state government tolerates its BCS schools sending millions of $$$$ EVERY YEAR to various out of state schools while denying that funding to instate D1 universities.
Do these schools have the right to carry out this travesty? Yes. The question is why does the state accept the practice as "normal" - at least for Alabama?

None of that matters. If the NAS is going to ignore the alumni, then what's the point? If it was out of their hands, they could have sent back a letter saying as much. Ignoring your members upon which you depend for your funding is probably not the best practice for growing donations. Especially during this campaign for UAB.

I'm not withholding any money because of the tags. My NAS membership isn't due for renewal yet, and I'm not sure what I'm going to do when it is. If I don't renew it will be because of the inattentiveness of the NAS, not the tags.

Yes, I keep the same old pro public education "crap" going over and over knowing that most in my state have that cause "on their ignore list" resulting in a "Bottom 10" state every year (except for leading the nation in slashing per pupil public school funding by the greatest amount in all 50 states since 2008).
Will anyone notice if Alabama drops another Representative after the 2020 census because so many leave it for a better opportunity in their lives? When I was young, Alabama had 9 Representatives but state leadership has led us to have 7 now. Are we headed for 6 soon? We don't seem to care if people leave as long as they are people who don't matter to us.

It's off topic and a derailment and should be moved every time you bring it up. I don't know hey you are constantly granted an exception to the rules.
+1, it serves no purpose to beat the hell out of a point that has nothing to do with the topic at hand 99.9% of the time.

My point had NOTHING to do with the tag. My point was about the NAS not returning emails or phone calls from their members. The tag is irrelevant to my point

I see.
Well, in contrast, when I emailed them about this topic, I got a very quick response.
It is certainly possible that others didn't. :)

By contrast again, the Revenue Department emailed me the next day after I complained about the tag. I don't remember what it said because I didn't care about it, but it surprised me that it wasn't, "This is an automated response. You concern is very important to us. While we can't answer each email personally, know that we are efforting to address your questions and/or comments in a timely manner."
