RE: Our 2014 Football Strength of Schedule...
I think this article sums up our scheduling issues.. hopefully Frazier can fix this Nebraska debacle.. Problems bolded..

Due to the Big Ten beginning a nine-game conference football schedule in 2016, the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Northern Illinois Huskies have canceled their 2016 game at Soldier Field in Chicago. The Soldier Field match-up was part of a three-game series that was announced in December of 2012. The game was scheduled for Sept. 24, 2016, along with two more games at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln on Sept. 2, 2017 and Sept. 14, 2019.

Nebraska needed to cancel the 2016 game vs. NIU because they needed to get down to three non-conference games due to the Big Ten’s move to a nine-game schedule.

As a result of the cancellation, Nebraska has completed their 2016 football schedule. The Cornhuskers open the season with three straight non-conference games at home against Fresno State (Sept. 3), Tennessee (Sept. 10), and Wyoming (Sept. 17).

Although Nebraska and NIU will not meet in 2016, the two schools did add two additional games to the contract which means they will now meet a total of four times.
“The Big Ten schedule necessitated these changes, and we are happy that the Cornhuskers will remain on the Huskie football schedule going forward with the addition of the 2021 and 2023 games to the 2017 and 2019 contests,” NIU Deputy Athletic Director Christian Spears said. “We have reached out and are actively working on returning to Soldier Field against a quality opponent in the future.”

Adding to the games in 2017 and 2019, Nebraska will also host NIU in Lincoln on Sept. 4, 2021 and Sept. 16, 2023.

Nebraska now has two non-conference games scheduled in 2017 (at Tennessee, vs. NIU), three in 2019 (vs. South Alabama, at Colorado, vs. NIU), two in 2021 (vs. NIU, at Oklahoma), and two in 2023 (at Colorado, vs. NIU).

Earlier today, it was revealed that Nebraska had scheduled a home-and-home football series with the Cincinnati Bearcats for 2020 and 2025.

The games against Nebraska are the only announced non-conference games for Northern Illinois in each of the 2017, 2019, 2021, and 2023 seasons.

RE: Our 2014 Football Strength of Schedule...
The chance of that one game costing NIU a chance at the spot is extremely low.

NIU would have to be undefeated/one loss to get consideration. To place such lofty expectations on 2015's team when the 2015 season is so far away is not ideal.

With that thinking lets never schedule anyone good ever again, it's risking a playoff spot.

I'll take the 900k.

That Nebraska deal seems like we aren't getting much respect from the big boys. Trade in a SF game for two more pay days in Lincoln. If Cincinnati can get a 1-1, why can't we at least get a 2 for 1?

I blame compher and then spears for just taking that deal instead of cancelling

Yep. We're like an FCS school with that kind of scheduling.

Yeah! It's no wonder the Huskies can never beat the B1G teams when they are always playing them on the road.

Well, except for Minnesota, Iowa, and Purdue the last two times.

Give Nebraska credit for succeeding in doing what Iowa tried and failed to do last year - getting a scheduled game vs the Huskies removed from their schedule.

A guaranteed Ohio St loss means little to nothing in the grand scheme of things in the 2015 season. This has nothing to do about the Orange Bowl and past seasons. Stay on topic.

2015 season is still part of the playoff system where they pick 1 team from the G5. I am saying the loss could cost us a playoff spot

I think some of the confusion is that the 1 spot for the GO5 team is not a "playoff spot", they would play in the "Access Bowl" which is totally separate from the 4 team playoff.

I really believe outside of the few institutions that are favored in this committee type setup, that you are going to have a lot of backlash with it, even amongst the power conferences. To not have that transparency, and have a few people in a room decide things is not really a healthy thing. At least the BCS process was transparent and somewhat fair and objective. It really will come down to how well connected a particular coach is with the committee.

...We should actually be in a great position as long as Frazier is our AD and Berry A is on the committee.

You go find me how many players in BCS bowls this year were from Illinois. I bet you can count them on one hand. And NIU plays in DeKalb, not Chicago.

I can't see where playing at FIU would help much - their stadium is even smaller than ours with max crowd of about 22K. If we're talking TV viewers the game could just as easily have been played @Indiana.

Recruiting expose for IU to kids in South Florida.

Its the same reason why a NIU vs FIU 1-1 would be good for our program.
