This really isn't nothing new for CUSA. The conference has had this issue since UL, Cincy, Marquette, St. Louis, and DePaul left for the old Big East. I say again, you got plenty of good mid to high major programs you can try to schedule home and home with an addition to maybe getting a lower level P-5 program. There has to be a balance and luck also plays a part. Temple normally would have been a great game to play, not so much this season.

I like that the conference is at least going to attempt to do something about teams that schedule a bunch of crap. I still wish they'd outright ban all non d-1 games with the 18 game conference schedule, but this at least sounds like a start.

I also like that Mackin at least stated that there is mutual interest in resuming the Memphis series. I hope we can get them on a permanent home and home basis for a number of reasons. I hope we can fill a couple of our holes with some decent mid majors at least, because Troy and Chattanooga aren't going to do much for us.

Easier said than done. C-USA is between a rock and a hard place when it comes to scheduling. But I do agree it takes the whole conference to step up and attempt to improve scheduling.

All teams probably have instate or other teams that they feel they must schedule who are not good for C-USA RPI. UAB does this as do most others. The trick is to schedule teams whose programs have not hit the skids (like the good coach being hired away or the good player(s) transferring out) in years after the contracts are signed. The better the sought after opponent, the longer in advance the arrangements may have to be made. (I'm hoping UAB will surprise a number of opponents in coming seasons)

I thinking starting some of the old Christmas tourneys like the Arby's Classic & Aub game at the BJCC would do wonders towards this at least for UAB

Yep. If it takes playing at the BJCC to get a power team to visit Birmingham, it's better than teabagging SWAC teams every year.

Glad to hear there is mutual interest in the Memphis series. All we eat is the opposite unless Mackin is lying.

Mackin has been saying there is mutual interest since day one. I am not hearing any interest in a home and home at this end. I think he is interpreting the fact that they took his call as mutual interest.

I'll believe it when I hear more than Mackin talking about it.

Well I am told there is mutual interest and it is coming from their AD's lips. I agree that I will believe that series when I see it but there are talks going on and the interest is mutual. Not one sided.

So you have spoken with the Memphis AD and he told you there wad mutual intetest?

Or have you spoke to someone who says they have heard the AD say it?

Because that's much difference than us reading Mackin saying it.

They may be stinging is along as a fallback but there really isn't room on their schedule ad thongs stand.
