I am going over to the Athletic Dept. tomorrow with a mock up and I will make sure logos or ok and request authorization to proceed. If so, I will try and get it ordered after that meeting. ODUR8R, If you think you can have something by tonight or early tomorrow I will wait and finish it up for that meeting. That is if you have the time.

I have a 2nd example I am posting with a few of the recommendations that have already been suggested. If everyone will look it over and make sure I am on the right track. Thanks 03-old

Question for the tech savvy. Is a tinyurl okay or does it need to be something else?

It should be ok as long as it redirects properly. It might only be an issue with web security/filtering devices as the redirects can sometimes flag. But should be ok... "technically." Now that I think about it not many folks have filtering on their phones unless it's a gov phone with mdm and such. But even then. So all that or I could have said "should be ok." Thanks for letting me talk through it.

Maybe we should stick with OT original idea for now. A tinyurl or generic link is less likely to get a nice conversion rate.

Having an active Monarch fan page on Facebook would be great. In conversations with my clients and employees about ODU football it would be easier to tell them about a Facebook page. Once they like it they will always get the new feed!!! Kind of like what R8R has with ODUBLEEDBLUE but more active with us on here.

I will meet for an approval tomorrow from the Athletic Dept. If they say it is a Go I will try and have the 1st run of our new calling card. In the future we can go to a lead in page or Facebook page as a way to have an introduction. Here is the latest update of what appears to be our best option at this time. Please review and see if you have any recommendations. Thanks to everyone for the help. This is the beginning of a new way to enhance ODU's Brand and involve more people into our athletic future on the boards.

Again Thanks ODU Oldtimer 03-old

RE: ODU Football Spring Game April 12
Again, I wanted to thank everyone for the great recommendations and help from the board and those that sent me PM's about different suggestions.

I did get the opportunity to meet with Chuck at ODU this morning and he was very gracious and excited about what we are doing. The bottom line is, I presented him with an impossible job to get approval with such a short window in regards to time. My goal is to have the cards by next Saturday, and hand them out there. Dr. Selig and a group of ODU officials have left to go to the final four and the others just felt that they needed a little more time. He suggested, because his only concern was the CUSA and ODU logo, the best way to handle this now would be to order without logos.

He has agreed to allow the circulation of the cards at the Big Blue BBQ and the spring game on Sat (4/15), as well as other sporting events. I will call on members of this forum to assist me with that job. I will be available at the Big Blue BBQ to give cards to all that can hand them out (on a one to one) invitation. I would love to have others assist with 20-50 cards to pass out at the spring game as well. I will be more than happy to get cards to all interested in assisting with this venture. You can pick them up from me at events or I will get them to you.

Please understand I have just ordered them a few minutes ago and they will not be delivered till next Friday. I would love for anyone that would like to assist in the cost to maybe help out with a small donation for the printing, any amount would be appreciated. I figure a few dollars from each person will cover the cost. For this order 1,000 cards with shipping totaled $70.00. My goal is to do this again when we run out of this first issue. Hopefully at that time we will be able to incorporate the logos.

Again thanks for all the help, it was actually pretty nice to see all the interest. Now let’s start to spread the word and grow the brand with more board members.

When I talked with Chuck this morning he was very excited to see the energy and enthusiasm that we as fans have taken to help create a larger following on the boards. I was pleased to hear they are all very aware of the boards. He stated that "the energy surrounding the boards indicates how dedicated ODU fans are"

Below is the Business Card that was ordered. You can PM for information about assisting with distribution or you can communicate your interest to help on the forum. I will do whatever it takes to get cards to members.

PS. There are a few on the board that won T-shirts and other items from last years CUSA Football Contest. I will have many Items at the spring game. For those that still need to pick up prizes, I will have different selections available at that time. If you are able to attend just let me know.

Thanks

It might be nice to have a thread that is just for “Spreading the Word”, “Building the Brand” and for “Distributing Forum Business Cards”

Maybe the moderators could help with a sticky. (If we have a thread dedicated to the above). We could notify members of events where they can help pass out cards. Members could also communicate if they need more Business Cards and where they will be available so they can pick them up for distribution. We could also continue to brain storm other ways to help grow the brand. Just a suggestion.

Just to have a quick flashback and get everyone ready for the 2014 season.

And now ladies and gentleman I present to you the Incredible Marching Monarch Band in ODU's historic first FBS football game on Aug 31, 2013. Time is quickly approaching for yet another historic year for Old Dominion University Football.

Don't forget to remind everyone to come out and support the team for the 2014 Spring Game at 3:00 pm on Saturday April 12. Make a day of it. There are lots of activities planned.

Harry, Thank you for all the time and hard work to keep Monarch fans up to date and informed on all things ODU

ODU touts full day of events for spring game

By Harry Minium
The Virginian-Pilot
April 11, 2014

NORFOLK

"The way East Carolina does its spring game is a model for a lot of schools," Old Dominion athletic director Wood Selig said. That includes ODU, which has added several events to Saturday's spring game to try to turn it into a daylong event.

At 10:45 a.m., the school will host the inaugural Big Blue 5K, which has attracted nearly 2,000 entrants who have paid $40 apiece. The race is capped at 2,100 runners, and will sell out before Saturday, said Amy Frostick of J&A Racing, a Virginia Beach firm sponsoring the event. "We only put this together three months ago," she said. "And we didn't do any advertising. To have this many sign-ups really surprised us. It says a lot about the support for the Big Blue Barbecue and ODU football."

At noon, the Big Blue Barbecue, a fundraising event for the men's basketball program, Mark Benson, assistant vice president of the Old Dominion Athletic Foundation, said perhaps 400 people attended the barbecue last year. "This year, he said, "we could have as many as 2,500."

It will be followed by the Blue-White spring game at 3 p.m. At 4, the ODU baseball team hosts ECU.

A band will play during the barbecue, and the marching band will perform during the game. A DJ will spin tunes in Foreman Field before the game. "We want to have as many events scheduled around the spring football game as we can," Selig said. "We're doing everything we can to make it an entertaining, fun weekend."

Chris Crouch, ODU's associate director of admissions for marketing and events, scheduled an open house Saturday at the Webb Student Center to coincide with the football game.

The event, which begins at 10 a.m., brings 400 families of prospective students - more than 1,200 people - to hear from president John Broderick, meet with academic advisers and tour the campus. The event ends at 2:30, giving them the chance to attend the spring game.

"Everyone got together and said, 'Let's make this an event, a day where people can say there's a lot going on and I can spend a day at Old Dominion with my family,' " Wilder said. "We're trying to add something new each year."

Wilder said he plans to stage a game Saturday, not just a scrimmage.
It's also a big recruiting weekend for ODU. Nearly 30 rising high school seniors will attend, as will about 15 players who signed with ODU in February.

It will be Heinicke vs. Washington in spring football game
NORFOLK

It will be starting quarterback Taylor Heinicke leading the White team vs. backup quarterback David Washington and the Blue team when Old Dominion holds its annual spring game Saturday at 3 p.m. at Foreman Field.

Coaches have divided the roster into two teams, and they appear to be evenly matched. Heinicke has standout wide receivers Antonio Vaughan and Larry Pinkard to throw to.

But the Blue defense, with starting tackles Chris Smith and Rashaad Coward, starting linebackers Martez Simpson, Andre Simmons and Reece Schmidt and safety Fellonte Misher looks pretty strong.

Coach Bobby Wilder said there will be four 8-minute quarters, with live tackling in the first and third quarters.

“We know we’re a little down with some of our numbers right now because of injuries, but we feel like we have enough for two teams,” Wilder said.

“Coach Jeff Jones, his coaching staff and players will mingle with fans from noon until 3 p.m. in the parking lots south of the stadium. Tickets are $25 at the gate.

Admission to the spring game is free.

“We’ve got six to eight players on the injury report who may be able to play in the thud part” of the game, Wilder said.

So will 21 players who signed with ODU in February or have been invited to walk-on without a scholarship.

In addition, 35 players from the high school classes of 2015 or 2016 will also attend.

Among the top targets for ODU who will attend the game,
John Branch from Dinwiddie High School south of Petersburg,
Jamez Brickhouse from Bayside High in Virginia Beach,
Tyler Davis from Mepham High in New York,
Miles Fox from Collins Hill High in suburban Atlanta,
Channing Hames from Bishop O’Connell in Northern Virgina,
Gary Jennings Jr., from Colonial Forge, Va.
Jalen Nash from Southlake Christian High in North Carolina.

OldTimer, I love your enthusiasm but you gotta limit the amount of content you post here from sites. Your last post leaves little to no reason to actually click the link. If anything, you should just give a one or two sentence summary of the article and provide the link.

There is a really good article this morning by Harry Minium on Justin Noye and all has done and the mentorship he has received to be able to get to college. You really have to admire this young man, and I wish for him all the success he can imagine.
