Rice's 2014 schedule is the 13th easiest based upon 2013 opponent winning %:

What does it tell you that Rice is on the schedule for the teams with the 4th and 5th ranked toughest schedules? Must not be much of a drag, if any! That is a huge improvement over a decade ago.

But Rice has added Old Dominion (FIRST year in FBS), UTSA, and a bunch of other SunBelt teams. I'd take the schedule a decade ago over the current slate:

Houston
Hawaii
@Texas
@San Jose St. (CA)
SMU
@Nevada
@Navy
@Tulsa
Fresno St.
@UTEP
Louisiana Tech

RE: 2014 Football Preview
WIOwl, I don't disagree. Rice's schedule was better a decade ago than now. My observation had nothing to do with Rice's bad schedule (that was Talon's apt observation). Mine had to do with Rice no longer being the closest thing to the school for the deaf and blind and weak sisters of the poor any more.

The schedulw isn't too easy unless you run the table. Nobody capable of beating you is an unworthy opponent. Is there anybody on next years' schedule who cannot win?

There is a difference between "unworthy" and "attractive". Our schedule is full of worthy opponents by your definition, but not attractive ones as measured by who will help put butts in seats.

These guys tend to be pretty on the ball with their previews and their advanced stats. Not much new insight for us this year, though. As we all know, a lot of it will be seeing how the QB position shakes out.

Great article. I did not know that Jackson only threw 16 passes last year. Major concern, last year the starter was not strong either. Now it makes sense why they allowed him to stay in the games.
