Nichols
Did you forget Shaq? He's our starting 5 and our best post player.
Yeah, I'm aware of Shaq's presence and I think he's a better basketball player at this point, but Nichols is the best post player. That is to say, he has a polished post up game.
Not in a million years. Sorry.
How is Shaq our best post player?
Austin inherently knows not to put the ball on the floor after getting an entry pass and he can use both hands.

I'm not an expert like you guys but imo Nichols is our most polished big man in a long time. Fundamentally sound, left, right hand. Not prone to silly fouls, blocks shots, keeps ball high, quick release, finishes, passes, and runs well. Shaq is a great talent too and they compliment each other'. Nichols has some range and does remind me a lot of Keith Lee, soft hands and touch. AN needs just a little more weight and experience before he climbs the NBAs draft charts. Let him put on 30 lbs of good muscle and Nichols will be down right nasty in college.
Nichols is unquestionably our best post player.

Nichols is unquestionably our best post player.
His touch along the baseline is incredible.
Yep, combined with the best hands I've seen in a long time, the guy is flat out talented. Shaq is drastically better than he was last year but his hands aren't good and he needs to develop a consistent outside shot. Nichols can throw up shots with either hand and hit them. Amazing.

I hope we feed Austin the ball as much as we feed Keith Lee in the 80's.

He's charismatic so the kids actually LIKE working out with him, he's intense on the sidelines and has good energy. He's not just some mope sitting there trying not to be photographed. He's really knowledgeable.
We won't be able to hire him away from UTK, but we can find a guy like him.
Could probably lure his brother from Vandy. Just got there earlier this year.
I'm not even sure how it's an argument. Shaq shot a better percentage from the floor (barely) and from the stripe. Shaq grabbed more rebounds on both ends, Shaq blocked more shots, Shaq grabbed more steals. Shaq scored more points.
Austin is great but let's cut the "shiny new toy" stuff that we do every single year. Shaq was the better post man this year and he'll be the best player on the team next season.
I'm concerned about the way Shaq seemed to digress at the end of both seasons here. Why is that? We had the out of shape excuse last year, but what about this year?

Maybe our perimeter players will make some shots next year so Shaq and Austin have some space

That is a weird one. Perhaps it was still a conditioning issue?
Also, he got double teamed routinely as the season closed out. Teams knew our guards couldn't reliably hit outside shots, so they double-teamed Shaq (and Austin a bit too).
I remember UConn did this in our last two games against them. Ollie was sly.

Dixon finished the year 51-132 for 38.6%
Crawford finished the year 76-204 for 37.3%
Do you think we will have two players that will shoot a better percentage next seaon? And who would those two players be ?

I'd bet King, Pookie and Woodson all have a good shot at shooting over that %.
38ish% is a good team %, 35% is the average. When your two best shooters aren't cracking 40% and your other two guards aren't cracking 30%, you can't get much worse.

King shot over 30%. So maybe he can improve. I just don't see anyone cracking 40. I guess I'm a skeptic.

If we don't have anyone shooting over 40% next season we're going to be down right bad, I think. We need at least one guy who can keep defenses honest.
