I love an IPA but I have to be in the right mood for it. There isn't much like an ice cold IPA on a hot day.

I was an aart student, so I loved the culture around UNT and in Denton.

Big Mike's is my hangout. Completely forgot it as well. I'm literally there every day. Can't believe I forgot it.

Big mikes was my place too. The baristas were always pretty cool/friendly. Not sure how it is now, but I'm sure the coffees and smoothies are still awesome. Some of the best coffee I have ever had.

Yup, the baristas are still great (a few are a bit snooty, though) and the coffees are still great!

You know, that's something I will never understand. Why are those waiters so snootyz? Heck, they're the ones that are doing the serving not the other way around. You're the one with the money and TELLING them what you want. In other words they're like the maid of the place so why do they carry on with such a big head? 04-chairshot

If it's the one with the I 35 addrrss, yes. No problem staying there ..typical holiday inn. Fairly new...5 years maybe...indoor pool. It is in the same parking lot at la quinta. We prefer the la quinta. They have a big 2 room suite for a reasonable amount that we stay in for staycations.

I've always stayed at the LaQuinta.......... Fort Worth Drive at I-35. Only a couple of exits to the stadium.

UTSA fans sold out that place. We all had a good time. They had nice big rooms.

The past decade or so has seen encroachment from the DFW suburbs. This is especially true along the South and East sides of town away from the campus. That culture is the Escalade-driving Perry-voting transplants that have been infesting the DFW exurbs for several decades now, finally reaching Denton.

Security is awful. You can't bring anything in

You're not trying hard enough. Not a game goes by without enjoying some SoCo or Belmont Estates Rhum (from St Kitts...get ya some) from my perch in lower Sec E.

food is iffy

It's a mix. The regular concession stuff is the usual Aramark-style stuff but the private vendors such as Rudy's BBQ or Beth Marie's Ice cream is more than worth what they charge.

Also, traffic is miserable and the roads are the equivalent of hell. They're rebuilding I-35 so it's a disaster zone and our roads are a mix of one-way, two-way, pot holes, poorly designed roads, and patches.

Stay in Denton. The best places are at the I-35/US 380 intersection just north of the stadium.

Agreed with most of what you said. The first thing is true, but scary. But at the same time, the development around the Square and all the lofts keeps me confident they won't get much farther. Especially with the traffic. 45 minutes is such a beating into Dallas. At some point though, you sprawl too far. Hope it doesn't hit Denton. Also, there's still about a 20 mile gap between FW and denton. Let's hope it remains that way. If it becomes another suburb, all of that charm I discussed will just go away. All you have to do is drive down Locust to see we're not a suburb. We have Bed & Breakfasts on Locust. There's so much town pride now and that weird crowd that doesn't fit in the "DFW mentality" that you just have to think Denton's government will save us from suburban hell.

Still, it's something to think about and pray that never happens. I love this place

Also, I can't believe I forgot about Beth Marie's. Can't miss.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who's afraid of Dallas.

Dallas is too busy making articles talking about how great they are in comparison vs Houston (LOL, World Class city vs Crime and $30,000 millionaires) to actually, y'know, improve their city. That's why people keep moving out and moving to the suburbs. If Denton gets overran by Dallas, I'm leaving.

Umm, no . . . it's pretty much Houston that is obsessed with Dallas.

You being a case in point.

Hahahahahahahaha. Dallas starts it every freaking time. Then Houston finishes. Because we simply don't care, Dallas is just the little brother begging for attention desperately but we only say something to push it away. Case in point, Conan's song about Houston which was filled with "Yeah this is so TRUE!@#$%#@" by the Dallas Morning News, D Magazine, Observer, etc even though it was just playing to the crowd. That just reeks of insecurity.

I mean either way, there isn't really a single metric Dallas surpasses Houston in despite being #8 in smog to Houston's #7. Oh, and Super Bowl titles, I guess...too bad we scalped the Oilers because they underperformed so badly.

This isn't even a rivalry, it's kinda like UT/A&M. A&M wants to be acknowledged so bad and expresses vitriol at UT at every chance but UT is kinda just like..."I'll have fries with that please."

Why else would people be leaving Dallas city limits in droves? People are moving into Houston.

I'll just stick to, as the Chronicle said, calling Dallasites our "beasts to the North." The only good thing about Dallas is that it's close to Fort Worth and Denton.

Straight from the DMN: "O’Brien has picked up what it means to be a true Dallasite: an inexplicable but nevertheless overwhelming hatred of Houston."

So you just hate Houston because it's Houston. That makes logical sense. I always find it amusing when people love Denton but say they hate Houston...Houston is pretty much Denton on a way larger scale LOL
