La. Tech hires Tyler Summitt as new women's basketball coach
Louisiana Tech announced Tuesday afternoon it has hired Tyler Summitt, son of basketball legend Pat Summitt, as its new women’s basketball coach.

Summitt, who has coached at Marquette for the past two seasons, will be introduced Wednesday at a noon press conference.

Summitt takes over for former Lady Techsters coach Teresa Weatherspoon, who was fired in March after a 12-20 season.

He's 23. That might be youngest D1 head coach in any sport.

This was a very smart hire. Good for recruiting and Tech will get lots of attention and PR from the media. Congratulations and hope this is the move that propels LA Tech back to a place of glory. Good hire for CUSA as well. This will be very interesting and the media will love the human interest side.

I am sure Pat will give him unbelievable support. She bleeds Orange, but her passion and love is her son.

If I had to guess Leon Barmore may have had a lot of say in this hire, considering how much of a rivalry developed between him and Pat Summitt over the years

His mom isn't exactly in great health. Interesting and risky hire, he's just way short on experience. I do like the fact that he studied under his mom some, but most of his college experience was working with Bruce Pearl. Well wait, if that's the case ya'll better hide your grills! Ha, j/k. Best of luck to La. Tech and Tyler Summitt.

Pretty crazy that both he and his mom got their first HC jobs before their 24th birthday, Pat was just 22. He should do well at LT and I hope he does.

Summitt and Barmore always had a heated rivalry when they were coaching, yet they had/have the utmost respect for each other. When we were at the height of our program, Tennessee was a regular on our schedule.

It is a big gamble, but there will be a lot of people in the background who will push him and want him to succeed.

I am sure he is very nice and mature for 24, but this is ridiculous. Also, just because a parent is successful doesn't mean the kid will be.

I hope for the best, but really embarrassed that we keep hiring coaches kids to lead our program.

Summitt Names DeMoss Associate Head Coach

RUSTON, La. - It didn’t take Tyler Summitt long to make a splash as the sixth head coach of the Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters.

During the noon-time press conference at the Jarrell Room of the Charles Wyly Athletic Center, Summitt announced that he has hired former Lady Techster Mickie DeMoss as his associate head coach.

With the hire, Summitt adds a 35-year veteran of the collegiate coaching ranks and someone that he is very familiar with from her 20 years as an assistant and associate head coach at the University of Tennessee.

What's there to be embarrassed about? Like him or not Skip Holtz is the most qualified coach we've ever hired. Derek Dooley and Sonny Dykes did well enough to get hired by Tennessee and Cal. Michael White (not a coaches son but an AD's son) has turned our Men's basketball program around. I'm certainly going to give Coach Summitt a chance and I'm looking forward to our next Baseball coach hire.
