Nice. But contracts like this only protect the coach at the MAC level and are mostly symbolic. If the program tanks, which I don't think it will, then Coach K will get paid for all of those years. If he decides to move on, then some big school will have no problem with the payout on his contract.

Anyway, I hope he got a nice raise too.

Quite an extension. Hopefully he'll be here that long.

I just saw this (http://www.bcsn.tv/news_article/show/372...id=1064651):

Quote:Unchanged in Kowalczyk’s contract is the buyout agreement. He must pay $175,000 if he leaves on or before March 15 of next year. He owes the university nothing if he leaves after that date.

That sucks. OU was owed $500k by Jim Christian for leaving for Boston College. TK's buyout is horrible for UT. $0 buyout after next year? When he would still have 5 years left on his contract?!? So basically he gained everything, while UT gained nothing. I'm sure he is still owed 100% of his contract if he is fired, but he owes UT barely nothing (and eventually nothing) for leaving.

Just like Coach Cullop has no buyout in her contract.

I agree. These contracts are over the top favoring the coaches who already make disproportionate salaries relative to everyone else on campus.
