RE: Wake Forest interested in Tulsa's Danny Manning.
Best guess is White doesn't go anywhere unless it's the SEC, & Ole Miss in particular.
Between those times, he's got a good situation & a pretty nice paycheck at LaTech.

The great thing about college athletics today is that only people with good character come out ahead.

If Wake were offering him 2mil/year, I'd be a little nervous. But I'm not about Tulsa. He seems pretty happy right now. His brother is like Associate AD at Tech. His first class of recruits are going to be seniors next season. I think next year would be the time to leave if he's going to do it. As of right now I don't know how we're going to be in 2015-16. I know we're going to have Alex Hamilton. Other than that its going to depend on our transfer from Murray State, our freshman who redshirted this past season, this recruiting class (which looks very very good) and our next recruiting class. We'll know more about most of those guys at the end of next season but right now Alex Hamilton is the only known quantity for 2015-16.

The AD found out via ESPN.
How's that for a more modern approach?

BTW...
I work in tech and am very familiar with all methods of communication.
Situations like this I believe still call for face to face or at least a conf call being set up.

That is also my opinion. White is a very good coach, who will most likely end up at Ole Miss or another 2 mil. plus job in a year or 2. I don't think he will be our next coach.

If Tulsa will pay up to 1.2 mil. a year for their next coach, I think we should be able to get a pretty one. We are moving to a multi-bid conference & almost all of our main players will be juniors next season. It is a very good situation for a new coach.

One more comment : It is not acceptable to group text your team @ 2:00 A.M. to say you're leaving.

Coaches today are surrogate fathers to some players. A coach should man up & visit with his players face to face if he's taking another job.

Then for your AD to find out you're leaving on ESPN just reinforces this perception of Manning. He is a good bench coach.....that's all I can say about him today.

Manning did a lot to bring TU basketball back to the NCAA tournament.

That said, his douchy way of notifying the players was classless. Hopefully he'll suffer the same failure Steve Robinson had when he left for the ACC.

I have always been a big fan of Tulsa. They won the most hardware in CUSA 2.0 I believe. I didn't think their fanbase would buy into the whole "our conference is a step above cusa" koolaid. Whatever though. Their fans were cool for the most part. In the larger landscape of things - I don't see any CUSA coach seeing the AAC as a step up. Then again, I didn't think Danny Manning was going to take the WF job either.

It's sad to say this to a UTEP fan since I did like our competition with you, but.... "keep telling yourself that when you're playing at FAU's high school gymnasium next year." CUSA will be a 1-2 bid league every year barring some vastly improved OOC scheduling. AAC will probably we a 3-5 bid league every year.

RE: Wake Forest hires Tulsa's Danny Manning.
Despite Dave Odom's success, Wake Forest continues to take a back seat to you know who. ODU Alum Oliver Purnell coached Clemson for 7 seasons and in 2010 said "**** this ****" and left for Depaul. Maryland said it too, "**** this ****". Because ACC basketball is UNC and Duke. It will never change. Danny Manning will disappear in a black hole. He'll realize just like Purnell did that winning in the ACC is an act in futility if your name isn't Mike Krzyzewski or Roy Williams. Now that Pitt and SU are in the picture, the climb only gets steeper.

Now that he's an ACC coach, the clock starts counting down to his eventual firing. It's what happens to you if you're not the coach of Duke or UNC.
