With AR, what's there not to like? Mr Smooth...

Anthony made a #Rendonculous barehanded play on a dribbler down the 3rd base line tonight. Made the sportscenter top 10.

RE: Rendon 3 run bomb
Anthony Rendon went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI in Tuesday's victory over the Marlins.
Rendon singled in a run in the sixth inning, then added some insurance runs in the eighth with a two-run double. Rendon's average jumps to .407 and eight RBI. The 23-year-old was starting at third base, filling in for Ryan Zimmerman, who was recently diagnosed with an arthritic shoulder.

WaPo:

Quote:Rendon quickly raced towards the ball, barehanded the spinning ball and fired an on-target throw to first to beat Johnson by a step. It was an impressive and crucial play made with all of his body’s momentum carrying him towards home plate. ”I did it a good amount of times in college,” he said. “I guess I still have a little bit left.”

As much as I loved watching AR hit, I don't know if anything was quite as eye-popping as those barehanded plays he would routinely make on bunts and dribblers.

Surprisingly, not much was lost when Shane took over for AR.

One of those was worth the cost of a season ticket.

Last night AR went two for four and is now hitting .419....and hitting second, they intentionally walked him to get to Jaysen Worth - who then, taking that personally, hit a grand slam. Nats offense is rolling at the moment. AR was back at 2nd as Zimm is back in the lineup, but he is definitely the Nats 3B of the future...nice for Nats fans since both guys are ultimate class acts.

Says something about you as a player when you're intentionally walked, in a one run game, to get to the #3 hitter.

Crazy.

Crazy.

Alternatively, it says something (negative) about the opposing manager!

Another decent day for AR today (1x3 with a walk and run scored ahead of another Werth HR). The Nationals have the best record in the majors at 7-2.

A double, a walk, 2 runs scored, not bad at all. He doubled to open the 7th inning off the same Marlins reliever that got him to pop up yesterday with the bases loaded.

AR is hitting leadoff today thanks to Denard Span being out with a mild concussion and hits a homer to deep center....nice for a Nats fan.

Here's a link to a photo of AR being congratulated at the plate.

Unfortunately, BJ Upton's dinger tied it up in B1, and the Braves scored three more in their opening frame.

In T5, AR led off with a walk. After a K, Zimmerman doubled AR to 3rd. But then got picked off, and the Nats didn't score that inning. In B5, Zim sat, and AR moved to 3rd. After 5, the Braves lead, 5-1.

In T8, down 3-5 with the bases loaded and two outs .... AR flied out the center.

Sorry, but I'm cheering for Atlanta in this one. My disgust for everything that comes out of Washington prevents me from ever cheering for any Washington team in any sport, I don't care who plays for them.

Zimmerman is out 4-6 weeks with a broken thumb (on that pickoff play). The Nats did call up a heralded infield prospect but he'll play mostly back-up at 2B and SS. AR is the everyday third baseman the next month-plus.

You don't get much more "heralded" than Rendon.

Zach Walters, a 24 year old switch hitter out of the University of San Diego.

If he can hit his weight, the 2B job probably goes back to Danny Espinosa, who was starting before AR took his job last year when Davey Johnson finally sent him to AAA. Espi has a great glove, but very undisciplined at the plate; Davey stuck with Espi alot longer than most managers would have. Now I suspect he'll get a second chance, but not for long with Walters behind him...
