Oesterle forgoes Senior year and signs with the Oilers
Good luck to Jordan, wish we could have had him back for his senior year.

Bittersweet - Tough to see good players leave early, but great for him and great for the program getting players that have the ability to leave early. Hopefully we can find a few more defenseman in the pipeline to continue the tradition.

AHL. Oilers don't have a spot for him, and if he were only ECHL level talent he either wouldn't have been signed until summer or signed with the ECHL team directly.

Spot on Moe

I'm assuming it's the standard 2 year, two way entry contract

Good for him, but will tough hole to fill for next year.

Wise old Murray & company must had a feeling something like this might happen, as this is why they sign 3 defensemen to LOI's this fall to come in 2014

Most likely. And by signing now they actually burn all 3 years of entry level salary status in that first contract. It's the standard way they entice college players with eligibility left to leave a year or more early. Edmonton wouldn't burned a year unless they thought there was a good chance of him being on their NHL roster by the end of his entry level contract.

Signing a LOI in college hockey doesn't mean they'll be coming right away. It could be 3 years before we see one of those players, just too hard to predict. They just re-sign year after year.

Signing a LOI is a big deal. You can only sign LOI 1 year in advance. They also sign a athletic aid agreement at the same time. You can't just sign a LOI, schools are not allowed to this. Verbals are completly different storey.

Schools/coaches also don't want to develope the reputation of having a recruit sign a LOI/scholarship agreements and then going back to them to ask them to agree to tear it up.

Also, the NCAA and conferences are cracking down on schools over recruiting. WMU has develope a very good reputation for not over recruiting

With Brown graduating, Oesterle leaving early and Mckee moving up front, that leaves the Broncos with 5 returning defensemen, so three LOI's for this fall make sense:

WMU hockey program signs 7 players to NLIs, including 3 defensemen and 4 forwards

Moe - Edmonton did not burn a year on Jordan's contract. It is a 2-year deal because by NHLPA standards he is 22 years old which constitutes a two-year entry level contract. He has signed an ATO in Oklahoma City, if Edmonton had burned a year he would be playing on an NHL SPC for the rest of the season a la DeKeyser last year.
