The writing was on the wall when Jones recruited two small forwards. Wish nothing but the best to Batten and I really hope he goes to a nice program and provides a spark.

Probably for the best for all involved. We are deep at the SG spot. With Freeman eligible, Clark (hopefully) healthy, and Moseley stepping up his game, I think Batten was inevitably going to be the odd man out. Baker still has a chance to grow into a bigger role.
I wouldn't feel too sorry for Batten. I remember that BT offered him a scholarship and he will graduate from Old Dominion this semester. That's not too bad. Also yesterday he had a far more important event take place in his life that trumps everything. He's on a pretty good run right now. Hopefully he caps it off with an excellent final collegiate season.

Parents and coaches are often the hardest on those in whom they see the most potential, especially when they fall short. From what I've heard about practices, there was just as much "give" as "take" in the relationship between he and Blaine. But none of us were there every day. Good luck, Dmitri, you signed up for a college` degree and you're getting one. Deal done.

Clearly, different personalities respond to different methods. Blaine should have tried a different approach when it became clear that tearing him down wasn't working. That approach isn't going to work on many Hampton-style ballers to be honest. They derive their motivation from their ego. Take the ego away and they'll lose their motivation. Obviously the approach did wonders for Frank, Baze, Valdas, etc, but it isn't one-size-fits-all.
Lots of guards next season, and less time for some to cover at other positions with big guys coming in. He probably had a nice long talk with the staff and knew the writing was on the wall. He doesn't want to lose PT as a senior.
Ever, you don't know and I don't know how many different methods were tried in coaching Dmitri, how many closed-door meetings took place, how many chats on the bus with assistant coaches. Nothing. Maybe there were none, maybe there were dozens. I'd also say that maybe the worst thing one can do is treat one guy one way and the rest of the team another; the other 11 guys or so notice and it sticks. I'm not making Dmitri out to be a bad guy; he's an 18-21 year old, so some of that is par fore the course. . . . We've also seen Jones ream Moseley and others when they screwed up last season. We've seen him pull guys out immediately for making mistakes. We also saw every coach in the NCAAs do the same thing, with assistants often handling the dressing-down. Watch K sometime on the bench. Anyway, we move on, he moves on. Again, best of luck to him.

Good points. I will say, however, that reaming someone in game and reaming them in the media are not the same thing, but I accept the point that I really don't know how many different methods were tried.

Freeman is a PG
There will almost certainly be times when Palmore and Freeman are on the court at times. Also, there are so many guards on this roster that Batten would probably see a lot less minutes....as a senior.
