there is absoultey NO pressure to add anyone. let things settle out. I agree with others that there will be an attempt by ESPN to extend for some more dough. They see they have something here and want to lock it up before they get competition. It frankly wouldn't take much probably.

Boise doesn't have the academics for the AAC.

I don't want them for their competition, I like them because they're a household name and can potentially draw a lot of eyeballs (plus, it's the Army...but let's put patriotism aside for a moment and pretend they're not future military officers).

Ok NC beta.... the SMU fan clearly says army is no go for AAC because it sucks... We need competitive members that will bring up AAC not army who can't even compete in CUSA...

Also there is no room for anyone else right now other than BYU for football. Only they could help this conf go UP not Down...

Wichita obv for basketball

RE: If ESPN bumps our pay way up at renegotiation.....
I used to think the "look in" was the midway point...maybe coinciding with Navy. The most recent info seems to suggest it could be sooner rather than later. Then, there's this tidbit from last Oct. that makes me think it's like Sasquatch or the Lock Ness Monster.

Quote:On if there's a window to sit down to renegotiate

"We really don't (have one). When you have a six-year deal, after a couple of years, we'll sit down with them and talk and say, 'Look, we're delivering some value, is there a possibility of extending or re-writing some of the parameters at the end of the deal?' But in three or four years, you're almost already into another contract time. It goes by pretty quickly.

http://www.nj.com/rutgersbasketball/inde...teams.html

Here's another highlight from the same piece that may be of interest.

Quote:On if the AAC would consider asking schools to pledge granting of media rights

"We haven't had enough support for doing that at this point. We know that the situation with realignment is still pretty fluid. We will certainly address it down the road when things stabilize even further. But the SEC doesn't have a granting of media rights. In our case though, it's a little different.

The American needs to be stable for several years and build the brand. If it performs as well in the next few years as this one, the contract will increase.

Currently, the conference has little bargaining power with ESPN and no other media company is ringing the phone.

As for expansion, the names being suggested would HARM the conference. Further, Army and AF would not join if asked. The only addition that would help is BYU and it is not going to take a pay cut.

It's not happening unless we add BYU, Army, or some untapped markets.....

I agree we will get our pay bumped way up, but disagree on the need for new schools n markets. If we could bump up to 3.5 per school adding 2 or 3 years to end of current deal it would be an accomplishment.

I don't think ESPN will give us more money because of success on the field and court. They look at ratings.

Success will drive ratings. A year ago, we were getting ***** slapped left and right. Today, we have a conference to be proud of. Night and day.

I really don't see any possible scenario whereby Boise joins the league. That bridge wasn't just burned, it was dynamited and incinerated.

BYU/Army/Air Force all have lots of issues to work out before they'd join the American. I think it Could happen over the next 5-6 years (and I would be pleased if it does), but a lot of other things need to happen first in order for that to happen later. Plenty of time to cross that bridge when and if we come to it.
