There might be coaches better than him, but not for the Razorbacks.04-cheers

You'll have to explain that one to me. Perfect choice huh?

There are certain coaches that a fan base will identify with. For instance, some have said they'd love to have Derek Fisher as our coach. I use that only as an example. He has had no coaching experience, but say that he had retired a few years ago, been an assistant under a great college coach at a winning program for about five years, and then became our coach. He might not be the best qualified coach in the country, but he would be a great choice for UALR. Hog fans identify with Mike Anderson. He's connected to the glory days of Arkansas basketball. Jimmy Dykes is a former player, with quite a bit of experience playing and coaching under Eddie Sutton, as well as others, and has national exposure as a broadcaster. A guy with a lot of energy and enthusiasm, and charisma (sort of the qualities some on the board have lobbied for) who will create a lot of excitement. And he'll be given a much longer leash than someone without similar connections. It was a weird hire, but maybe a good one. Only time will tell.04-cheers

I get you now. If we could come up with someone who was still alive, and was one of Babe Ruth's or Ty Cobb's teammates, then he'd probably get our baseball team going, and the fans, they will come. Makes sense.

Baseball not so much. But if we could get a popular ex Trojan as basketball coach, maybe it would work. But I can't think of anyone other than Derek Fisher right now who would fit my example.04-cheers

Hiring Jimmy suggests desperation on the part of the AD. Might work out and it might not. I'm just glad he didn't go for the sure thing. I don't know anyone who believes that Foley would not have won big it Fayetteville.

Sometimes the best coach isn't the best coach for a particular situation.
Jeff Long obvious feels this was the right choice after talking with five or six other possibilities. I think Jimmy's visibility nationally could help tremendously in recruiting. He's a very energetic, likeable personality, and he's had enough coaching experience as an assistant to make the leap.
He might not be the right choice for some programs, but he probably is for Arkansas. I know MJS won't like this, but Mike Anderson is the perfect coach for the Hogmen, or the Gutterhogs as he likes to refer to them.

A perfect coach would have gotten the team to the NCAA tournament, the past 3 years. Amazing that with the best on campus arena in the country, unlimited budget, and unbelievable fan support they have had one NIT appearance in the time he has been there.

Its an unwritten policy. UAF Never hires someone with ASU ties...ASU never hires someone with UAF ties.

Pretty much been that way ever since we had the audacity to become an FBS football program.

Not Quite. Chris Poole was a great Volleyball Coach at ASU with several championships and was hired away by Arkansas to start their volleyball program,

Poole was very close to the cut off though. That's why I forgot about him. Arkansas hired him in 1993.

Didn't stAte hire a former hog assistant in football several years ago, or maybe it was the other way around?

Did Malzahn coach at UANWA before he coached at ASU?

Malzahn was an assistant at UAF before he went to AUBURN

Malzahn was at Arkansas for one fateful year in 2006 before taking a pay cut and downgrade in position (Tulsa) to get out of there as fast as humanly possible.
