Well, that's true. I'm thinking this year is an aberration. At least I hope so. If it's not, then something has already hurt our recruiting.

2014 isn't a strong class. Don't waste a scholly on someone you don't need

Yeah, I'm not arguing the point. I understand what you say is the conventional wisdom. I just hope it pans out.

RE: JC and Senior Transfer Players
I like this team (the way it's setup) for next year. We shouldn't have a problem on offense. Nichols, Shaq and King will get majority of the touches. If Burrell can shoot he would make teams pay for doubling down low. We may have good pieces to fit with our front court. Defense will probably end up getting us again. But the additions in 2015 will make us tough with the right mixture of veterans and underclass men.

Across the board and historically, JUCO's just really don't pan out.

There are exceptions, but most JUCO's that end up succeeding had a special issue. (ie Chris Jones not getting out of his loi with UTk...)

I remember when John Grice "lit" up Louisville. He also got a tech for taunting at the free throw line I believe. He played the 4 most of that year.

JuCo's succeed in being solid role players.

This is what we are looking for out of these three. Role players who are older and mature to mix with our younger, more gifted players.

No one is expecting them to be superstars.

Exactly, they are there to shore up the main cast and add depth. People fail to grasp that we are relying on mostly feshmen and sophomores with the exception of one junior in Shaq to play significant minutes next season. Adding on more freshmen wouldn't make sense and just saving those scholarships would leave the bench with no depth, so you fill it in with supposedly good JC's with some experience and commitment of only two years

Omar Sneed, Jermaine Ousley and John Grice weren't too shabby either.

Grice averaged 4 ppg his first year and was almost kicked off the team for cheating. His third year at Memphis he had a productive season.

Wimmer averaged 5 ppg and shot 33% from three in the 94-95 season.

Sneed was a man.

Ousely was the higher rated of he and Sneed and was a disappointment relative to his ranking. He averaged 6 and 5 his 1st year.

How about Cody Hopson?

Point being, it appears by some people's "projected" starting lineups, Hawkins and Woodson are being expected to be heavy contributors, not role players.

That's all.

...Yep the game has changed so much since our last "long tourney runs." Even since the great 07-08 team. The transfers/ juco guys are now a significant part of the equation. If you only look at what a team did in the tourney itself as a measure of that team's success, then you are telling me that the Duke Blue Devils would have been better off without Rodney Hood this year right????

As bad as things are around the program now with the blow-out loss to Virginia in round 3, think of how bad things could have been without the game Michael Dixon had in round two versus GW. Dixon was up and down all year just like the other 3 Senior guards, but he clearly served as the calming influence in the George Washington game saving us from the embarrassment of another one and done appearance.

I don't know who is projecting them to be starters at this point beyond a few posters here. King, Shaq and Nichols all should be ahead of them at this point. Woodson may have a shot to start since the backcourt is more open, but he will have to come in a make a series impact first. I suspect he will be coming off the bench.

Time will tell. I certainly hope one of them exceeds expectations and turns into a starter.

Seems like a pretty ideal situation for them imo.

Exactly and you don't load up on talent that will just be taking up space when the next couple of years will be special.

Times are a changing...

With the rules change for HS'ers with the number of classes they can replace on their HS transcripts it is forcing more and more players into JUCO and since PROP48 has been gone for a loooooong time you really cant get too many guys who don't qualify to sit out for you a year on your bench.

I am not sure but I bet many of our Laurneburg class would not have made it on campus with todays rules.
