RE: UAB to host '16 conference tournaments?
No matter where the tourney is held I will be there but I would rather see it in Biloxi where it's going to be warmer and a ocean and more things to do before of after the games. But my first choice which will not happen would be one of the FU's hosting it.

I can easily see Western having 3,000 to 4,000 if it was in Birmingham 2,000 to 3,000 in Biloxi and if it's at Louisiana Tech 500 to 1500 depending on our season.

So I could get in for free at every Sun Belt tournament by showing my student ID; does C-USA do the same?

Ok so lets see
piecing together the reports we have so far
UAB (2 venues in place now)
Southern Miss - Hattiesburg. (not a good 2nd venue)
Southern miss - Biloxi (if 2nd location works its the best)
Char - cant sling a dead cat in NC without hitting a basketball arena.
La Tech - Distance between the 2 venues?

Any one else bidding??

I think Charlotte is pretty unlikely for next year personally.

The CIAA has their tournament here every year and will for the next six years. It is the week before the CUSA tournament, so most years it would not be a problem, but next year we are also hosting NCAA tournament games.

CIAA + CUSA + NCAA would put the Hornets out of their home arena for three straight weeks.

Pretty nice to say "Hornets" instead of "Bobcats", eh?

yep. Also nice that the team is trending up to coincide with the name change. The arena will be electric next year.

For Tech, the distance between the CenturyLink Center in Bossier City and the Centenary College Gold Dome in Shreveport (likely location for women) is about 6-7 miles.

As a die hard FAU fan, I think this would be a TERRIBLE idea. Basketball is JUST not a big sport down here. While S. Florida has plenty of venues and things to do, I honetly think there would be 0 local interest even if FAU and FIU were at the top of the confrence.

The tourney needs to be centralized so that the majority of folks can drive to it. Those of us on the outlay of the confrence (UTEP, FAU/FIU) should have to fly in. No point in making 80% of the attendee's fans fly.

RE: UAB to host '16 conference tournaments?
B'ham here we come! The only time the tournament was held there Charlotte won it, so we need to defend that title.

I know in C-USA 1.0 the tournament brought big crowds, with Louisville and Cincy bringing maybe 2000 people each. Charlotte brought hundreds, but certainly never 1000. I believe I heard that this year the second largest fan contingent was 79 people, coming in behind UTEP's crowd. Could that be? If so should we just give the auto-bid to the regular season champ and skip the tournament?

I think you'd see considerably more in a centralized location. UTEP isn't driving distance for any other fan base and flying there is really expensive from the east coast. I looked at tickets early in the season last year when I still thought we were going to be good and tickets were like $600.

I can drive or fly to almost every other city in CUSA's footprint for less than half that.

I didn't say it would be a good ideal for everyone I'm just looking at what's best for me :) I would rather spend 5 to 6 days in S. Fla, fishing, swimming, 75 to 80 degrees and sunshine than any place else in the conference. My second choice would be Biloxi. I would rather make a 14 hour (9 to Biloxi) drive and have other things to do for a few days than a 4.5 hour drive to Birmingham and nothing to do. Going by the two post above this one I can grantee most fanbases would have more fans in S.Fla than in El Paso, TX. Western usually has 75-100 fans to show up for the regular season games @FAU/FIU.

Stuff to do in Birmingham

http://csnbbs.com/thread-45191.html

A little dated, but still useful, and a good place to ask questions of the locals.
