I am not talking about the flukey runs by Dayton, VCU, LaSalle, and other double digit seeds. The true next step is to become Louisville, Arizona, Duke, Syracuse, UCLA, North Carolina, Michigan State, and company. Schools that earn high seeds and make runs in the tournament because they are the better team not because they have a once in a lifetime run. I want it be like 1993 or 1996 again where UC is a 2 seed in the Elite Eight because they are favored to get there.
I don't think being a final four contender every year is realistic. Mick is a great coach and he will get us to the tournament consistently and some years we will have a great seeding. Let's use some common sense when it comes to expectations for UC football and basketball.

Why should we temper our hopes and/or expectations?
Your version of common sense = lowered expectations
I'm just being realistic. A lot of factors come into play to reach the final four every year. Players graduate, Team chemistry, Players get hurt, Some players don't make the grade in Div.1., Some luck is involved, Health issues, grades issues, Off the Court issues, maturity issues, etc.: I could go on and on, but you get the point. Setting goals that can't be reached consistently is a negative. John Wooden set realistic goals for his team every year and he never used the word win. He won 10 national championships and never used the word win. Read his book. He was a fantastic Coach. MrP3242

This year alone Izzo dealt with tons of injuries and just kept reshuffling. UK deals with team chemistry and early departures. XU had problems with players qualifying academically. Those things are all part of a coach's life. All of the things you listed can happen but they can also be convenient excuses.

I'm aware of his Wooden's record. He also dominated in a time before scholarship equity so he stockpiled the best players.

Hey maybe you should read Success is a Choice. It's by Rick Pitino.
