I'm with AB--give me Biloxi next year, another year to get our Opening Drive together, and then host the thing in 2016 at the BJCC with all of the new fun things in Uptown completed.

RE: UAB to bid for 2015 C-USA Basketball Tournament
Concerning baseball, UAB could make this work even with the Barons playing. We could host a low-profile game at Young or Rickwood Field while the Barons played, and at the conclusion of the Barons game host a higher-profile game at Regions, with busses going between all the parks. Throw in a package deal where the fans can go to Barons games as well, and it would be a baseball mecca.

And it's about time Birmingham makes noise as a sports destination again. Baseball and Basketball hosting success will increase the calls for investment in Football.

If the Met could work the $EC tournament around the Barons' schedule, then Regions Park can damn well do it for CUSA.

I think they can, but if the first round game between Marshall vs Charlotte or something is conflicting, I think we can host that game at Rickwood and give the loser a consolation game at Regions. Rickwood a neat piece of history that Birmingham can take advantage of, and having a minor league game as an option to attend might be very useful as well to attracting visitors to arrive earlier instead of skipping the first round.

I don't think we have the base attendance figures to be able to put up the money to host the C-USA baseball tourney... We have the nicest of the parks in the conference now that Regions field is downtown but I'm not sure that USM or Rice would not be better suited for hosting over us.

The more we can demonstrate success with athletic events, with real solid butts in seats tickets sold, well run and attended avents, the more ammunition we have.

Not that the BoT would care if we had an M1 tank gun pointed at them.

Just not sure how hosting a Conference tournament helps football in any way.

We have already hosted the C-USA Softball tournament and the Men's College Cup 2 years in a row.

He didn't say it would help football, just that it would increase the call for investment in football. And this thread proves it. Just a thread about the conference tournament has increased the call by one.

Yes, technically correct, MB.

If downtown Birmingham can string together a series of successful hostings of athletic tournaments, then there would be more ammunition for a downtown football field. I didn't say who would get that investment. If UAB doesn't build it then the city might decide it could make more money hosting football downtown than at Legion Field, and calls for a multipurpose facility for Birmingham could increase.
