RE: Rice at UAB Saturday game
Has the overall ranking of our recruits fallen over the past 10-15 years?

Don't know, but probably. I always thought the Savery class was the best class we had. Savery, Dodson, Lehmann, Henley, Friday, CSC, etc.

RE: Rice at UAB Saturday game
Well, on a positive note..if we can get out of this funk and play better, there's always the CUSA Tournament ahead.
We've lost the regular season before and won the Tournament at the end to right the ship a bit.
Still..it's a bit depressing to see our team playing like we are.
Hell, it's really bad when Walt quits posting.
It's going to be a true test of this team's spirit to see how they handle this. And a bit of a test for our fans, too.

The team can still win the League and CUSA tournament but league is starting to slip. I have confidence the team can win CUSA tournament. Take it a game at a time.

Looks like a down year. It happens to every college team. Let's see what happens at the tournament. It could bey the beginning of the end of the legend,CG

Don't know, but probably. I always thought the Savery class was the best class we had. Savery, Dodson, Lehmann, Henley, Friday, CSC, etc.
That's in retrospect. Savery was the only Top 200 prospect in that year's recruiting class. This year's class had Salinas, Gray and Brewer all Top 200, and Chandler just outside.
The problem with this year's team is not talent.

it is too easy to give up as a fans, not a perfect year.
Let's lower the expectation, we may see some surprise.

Again, spoiled by success but it's not like we've had "up" years in the recent past. It has been a pretty direct slide. We didn't exactly dominate C-USA last year and we many not win the league this year.

Yes, I'll be down for the week. I have an Advisory Board meeting on Wednesday. However, unless the team turns it around immediately-- starting this afternoon-- I doubt I'm going to roadtrip to Boca, which I had planned to do. Since I'm going to miss the Regionals round first weekend in June (my 35th B-school reunion), I'm considering making the trip to Haittesburg for the conference tourney.

Before we get to hard on the team, Rice's Friday starter has been out all year. I know injuries happen to everyone, especially pitchers. But that is certainly a factor, and has been a factor quite a bit recently. How many times since Rice's last CWS appearance has the team lost a Friday starter for a big chunk of the season? Duplantier this year, Stephens last year...

While this has definitely been a factor, I think defense has been more of a killer this year than subpar pitching. Maybe it isn't true, but I feel like defensive miscues have plagued our team more regularly than bad pitching.

A&M lost their top two starters before the year. It hasn't seemed to slow them down.
