I have no idea what he's going to do ... just a educated guess based on his drama this past season. He may get things straight and work out fine. I hope so. I thought he had a nice little post game from time to time.

Alright Negative Nellie. A lot of kids have been in the doghouse, but Pastner is pretty good at getting those kids going. You sound like the guy that posts the transfer crap, and hopes it comes true so you can tell us all later on here.

Those are the $1million questions imo.

can they shoot?

OMG03-banghead I'm sorry, I just cringe when I hear anything rel8ted to "we must make shots to win" scratch anything about making shots! PLAY DEFENSE!!!!o

That's worth more than making a shot...JMO

See Cincinnati Bearcats. Gr8 defense. Low octane offense.

Woodson is not that and I don't think we have one coming in.

He can eat up a lot of space though and he will block a few shots. I still think a maturing Dom being about to give real minutes would change us into a much more physical team. I'm also assuming Nichols will add more size. I know he did his last year or so in HS. I expect he will add 10-15 pounds and hit the weights. We actually can be a physical team next year with Dom, Shaq, Nichols and Hawkins all in the rotation.

That front line should be a very powerful rebounding unit on both ends of the floor.

Almost no one would ever push that group around.

Well, you did claim Woodson to be the most offensively skilled big Memphis will have had in nearly two decades.

Unfortunately, his gpa (3.0) was higher than his ppg (2.6).

WOW bro.......You've lied about that quote every time you've brought it up. I can't believe you are still obsessing over this.

That post from LAST YEAR was about guys listed 6-10 and up. (must be the 4th or 5th time we've covered that now)

And its still true. Hopefully he commits himself to getting in shape for next year.

He can be a real beast if he wants to be.

David Vaughn, Ren, Kelly Wise, Angel Garcia, Shawn Taggart. All those guys were 6'10 or better and skilled offensively.

Agreed.

But that's not what that old thread was about.

That discussion was about was the type of true bigs Memphis rarely seems to land but certain big 10 and big 12 schools land consistently. We're talking about 6-10ish types out of HS who are...
A- top 100 recruits
B- known for their low post skill set
C- within the last 20 years

So scratch Vaughn (23 years ago) and Taggert (a transfer). Garcia had a perimeter game, not a post game. Scratch him too.

Ren and Wise were the two I mentioned as having those type of skills, Though Wise was not considered a top 100 recruit coming out of HS. So we basically landed 2 of those guys in 20 years...... Ren and Woodson. BTW- its been 20 years now on Ren as well. His freshman season was 1994-95.

Most posters agreed with that. Saluki was the only poster who seemed to have a problem with that thread.

Nearly a year later, its STILL on his mind.

Every time he brings it up, he lies about what was said. His latest flame attempt..... "Well, you did claim Woodson to be the most offensively skilled big Memphis will have had in nearly two decades."

No such thing was ever said. We've had several bigs with more offensive skills than Woodson such as Massie, Omar Sneed, Austin Nichols, Angel Garcia. They just weren't the type of classic 6-10 bigs we were discussing.

RE: Big Dom is the key for next year
The Big 10 & Big 12 gets bigs and actually develops them. OTOH our focus has primarily been on the backcourt with our bigs being ignored or relied on for put backs or garbage baskets. Of our bigs in the past 5 years Shaq is the only one who has shown noticeable improvement and no doubt, most of this came from weight loss and getting in better shape.

Austin got an early break at the expense of Pellom’s injury, and at times he produced well when we got him involved. Other than that King, Dom, Iverson, and Wilson IMO didn’t get enough in game experience to be ready to come out at the start of next season and produce. King got the most PT of the 4 but spent all but a few minutes playing out of position.

With that said I don’t know what to expect from this team next season. It wouldn’t surprise me one bit to see the 3 (and sometimes 4) guard set again.

I'd say next year will be the 22-12 range, probably an "on the bubble" year. There's no freshman game changer coming in and the other new guys don't have much playing time. To expect anything more than that next year is the definition of insanity.

That number may even be a little generous but I certainly agree with your logic.

RE: Big Dom is the key for next year
I see no reason for Dom to transfer. He'd have to sit out a year and I think he'd have a huge problem with that. Also, if he transfers without fixing whatever problems he's having with Josh (of vice versa), he'll only take those problems with him. He'll never mature to the point of excelling on the court and in life. If he becomes focused on the right things at Memphis, I believe he could be very good. Good enough, in fact, to earn a spot in the NBA. He has the kind of body that fits there, but he has not developed the potential to make NBA scouts look his way. That could change. Next year could be a big one for Dom, and I hope he makes the right decisions about his future. Maybe he'll decide that playing at Memphis for Pastner is not his cup of tea. Who knows. I'm hoping he stays and becomes focused in life, in school and on the basketball court.

He will have to work his butt off and improve his mental approach to being a ball player to get 10 minutes a game.

He's halfway decent. You don't finish a coast to coast fast break like he did with his kind of size if you aren't halfway decent.

He is out of shape and in the dog house, though.

You are right, but both of those should have been flushed. the fact remains, if he was good he would have played major minutes.

I prefer 'Reasonable Ralph'. And I'm crushed you feel this way about me. And your insights are so revealing. You got me. Seriously though, I don't understand why this is 'crap'. How can you be honest with yourself and say that if any/all of these 3 guys decided to transfer, you wouldn't be entirely surprised (Dom, KI, DW). There have been behavior and playing-time issues. That's all I'm saying. I'm not saying, nor have I every implied, I'd like 'to see them gone'. That's it.
