all i am saying is that texas is just like any other regular coaching job. you won't have instant success there just because they are texas unlike kentucky duke, kansas, etc.
Seriously????? You don't have "instant success" because of what school it is, otherwise Will Muschamp, Luke Fickell, Derek Dooley, RichRod at Michigan, and John Blake at OU would have ended up better off in football and BCG wouldn't have been run out of Lexington and Doherty would have been successful for UNC Hoops and NOT had a losing ACC record.
for every coach you list that failed there are 10 more at other places who managed to have immediate success because of the name brand, facilities, history, etc. of their program. or are you really naive to believe that hoke/meyer could bring in top recruiting classes so early in their tenures and in no way did coaching at a top 5 program have anything to do with that?
remember cal? elite 8, final four, NC in his first 3 years???? is that not success? or what about meyer who won a f**kload of games in his first 2 years
There is NO job where you are going to have instant success due to it being ______ University. You get advantages but success lies with the coach.
success may lie with the coach, but this thread is about BEST COACHING JOBS. If larry brown was at kentucky, it is 90% likely that he would be coaching them to at least the elite 8 considering how much he accomplished with so little at SMU this season. the pace at which a coach has success is dependent on the amount of resources he has. there is no way....NO WAY calipari is getting 6 five-stars per class at western kentucky, but he can at UK and that is why success does in fact lie with the resources you have
1- Fan Support: Top 20-30 range in attendance usually
2- Recruiting base: Look at the NBA alumni
2b- Every new coach anywhere has to build up recruiting bases, not unique here.
3- Alumni tree matters less
4- Accomplishments helps but it isn't what makes a job good, it's the platform to launch for new accomplishments.
lets take a look at reality:
1. texas had 18 home games this year. wanna know how many of those games had over 10k in attendance???
answer:7
wanna know what their arena capacity is?
answer: 16,540
wanna know how many times they hit 16,540?
answer: once
so lets dismiss this ridiculous lil lie that texas has a decent BB following because on their typical night they fill up only 50% of their arena which is quite pathetic considering their location, enrollment, & alumni size.
2. completely false. do you really think it takes unc & ecu the same amount of work to get a recruit? heck no. UNC being UNC gives them a HUGE advantage because of all the history, fanbase, facilities, surrounding talent etc.
3. it matters a big f***ing deal. alumni tree's give you an advantage with donations, assistants, & recruiting. do you think that UNC doesn't pimp the sh*t out of Michael Jordan?? Or what about Uconn/syracuse with hopkins/ollie who both played at syracuse and will continue to coach there for quite some time?
4. go ask duke, unc, & uk how they feel about that lil comment
They have better prestige in hoops and banners, I've said that repeatedly. It's a top 15 job, behind the KU, Duke, UK, Cuse, UL, Memphis, Indiana, and UConn crowd. It lacks the prestige and historical strength of those brands but is elevated by blowing the doors off of the budget, facility, and recruiting angle.
1 legit FF is not "prestige" michigan & ohio state. not only have more prestige, but they have better fan support, and a better conference. Not saying UT isn't a top 15 job, but if you are gonna call UT top 15 then you better include michigan & ohio state in the top 15 as well.
