RE: Football will now charge for parking
I don't see this deterring any students. Marketing will be pushing the shuttle (especially to freshman), offering giveaways and prizes to students. Off-campus students and commuters will have no problem using the shuttle. It'll have multiple pick up spots, all they'll need to do is walk to one of them.

If anything, students will just carpool in bigger groups, like at other schools.

RE: Football will now charge for parking
Don't most students have parking passes for EMU, if so that should allow them to park for nothing. That's the deal at Toledo, they can park at Toledo for football games for free just not in the high-roller donor lots.
Why charge students another 5 bucks when they have already paid for a parking pass for EMU?

You're right. My bad. EMU is on par with local high schools so they shouldn't charge for parking either. That makes perfect sense.

I didnt make the argument saying high schools charge for parking, nor did i say EMU should not so dont get your panties in a twist. Matter of the fact is i enjoy going to Eastern games with friends and students and now im going from spending 35/game to 55/game on average, im fine with that but expect attendance to drop further, i see a lot of high school students at football games and doubt they can afford 30 just to get in, i know i couldn't.

You might have to explain to me again how exactly the attendance will be dropping MORE. Seems hard to do in my mind.

All sarcastic comments aside, I dont think it will deter people... although it wont improve it either. People that show up are either die-hard fans, attached to the program in some way, or are students. Those people will not go away...

RE: Football will now charge for parking
So here is the low down on the parking fee and ticket prices, according to people within the Athletic department Heather Lyke has become some what of a tyrant lately. After initially wowing people with her work ethic and determination she is now viewed by many as rude and demanding. She has been spending a lot of time at UofM events as a guest of Dave Brandon and many around EMU believe she is either working on a better gig or she is delusional enough to believe that EMU is OSU or UofM. According to very good sources within the AD she was advised by current staff (many of which have been around EMU for years) that raising ticket prices and charging for parking prior to producing a winning program was a mistake and would hurt an already embarrassing attendance. She apparently became more obstinate and refused to listen to reason. I like the the hire of Chris Creighton as football coach, no one inside the athletic department has a bad thing to say about the guy, both basketball teams seem to be moving in the right direction, I hope Heather Lyke doesn't derail any sort of progress by becoming to full of herself. If any of you have friends within the EMU AD, I'd ask them to verify this information, but I've heard it from several employees while attending end of the season basketball games. FYI, apparently Heather actually said that raising ticket prices may help attendance because people will assume that because it is more expensive it must be a better product, if that doesn't show a level of mental illness I don't know what does!

Its the high schoolers theyll be losing, and it will make me less likely to go if the weather isn't great. So for people like me, instead of going to 3 or 4 games ill probably only go to 1.

That's like selling a Yugo for $1,000 and then raising the price to $1,500 and saying the price increase made it a better car. Make no mistake our football program in terms of W and L has been the Yugo of the college football program for years now.

Everyone is basically making a fuss about a ten dollar rise in the total gameday experience. In my mind its a non issue.

If you cant afford an increase of 10 dollars then you probably are spending your money in the wrong spot.....

It went from an extremely affordable event ------> To an affordable gameday experience.

The one thing I will say, and I agree with Dexter.... Is we need to have some type of price value system or something for the college kids as well as the high school kids.

That makes all the sense in the world.

And almost anyone will you tell weather wise this is the worst schedule in years.

Maybe with the price increase they can have a Heather Lyke bobblehead day as a promotion. We should get something for the increased prices.

That's true if we don't want to pay the increase per person we don't have to come.

See my prior posts on this topic. It becomes a bigger issue for those of us with families. Couldn't they come up with a family pack?

Hey EMU79-
Re getting something for the ticket increase: Have you checked out the season ticket brochure? Kids season tickets are still $10/game. They are offering free away in-conference tickets and an improved family zone. Lastly, at least one game will end with fireworks.
So, to my eye, the game day experience is supposed to be better. Will it be....?

RE: Football will now charge for parking
That's great if you're kids are 12 and under and kudos for that. I argued that it should be extended up to high school age (18) with a high school ID.

The promos are a nice but what would really make it worth it would be something else besides the disaster we've been paying for on the field season after season. I said at the beginning of this thread that show me some progress and I'd be happy to pay more. The parking charge isn't an issue to me.

And as I've said previously I can afford the increase for my wife and I, but probably not for the kids ages 16. Sorry but that is the way it is.

First off, its an increase of 20 just for me to get in, not 10, and sure the parking fee is a good idea for upkeep and etc, but what warrants the 10 dollar increase/ticket? Increased performance? Better socioeconomic area? Increased demand? More fan friendly amenities? Seriously.

RE: Football will now charge for parking
As I pointed out that in a prior post that's a 33% price increase for a team that won two games last year. Just to put it in a different light did what you get paid go up 33% this year? Maybe Heather's salary went up that much, who knows?

By the way I also contribute to the athletic fund during EMU's annual financial drive, its modest, I'm not donating $1,500 to get VIP parking and a suite.

Actually without parking its a $5 dollar increase per adult person and $5 for parking. So for a family of 4 it its about $20. But again you miss my point take a look around and you'll realize that the price of everything is going up but not what's in your pocketbook. You call getting beat by 20-30 points per game an experience? I call it sadism.
