Rice at Houston (Tuesday Baseball Game)
Looks like the Coogs will be starting their mid-week right-hander, Jr RHP David Longville (3 starts, 13.2 IP, 1.32 ERA, .220 BAA, 0 BBs, 11 Ks), but I'd expect LHP Tyler Ford to enter the game no later than the 5th inning, and quite possibly sooner...

Rice lineup: Byrd SS, Cook RF, Ewing 1B, Reeves C, McDowell DH, Hoelscher 3B, Aquino LF, Stainback 2B, Warren CF, C.Smith P. 6:30 pm.

$5 premium for the game. $15 for reserve seats instead of the usual $10. They were pulling down the normal price list when I walked up. Only $2 extra for general admission seats ($10).

Ewing with a hit. Unfortunately it hit Byrd who is out. Reeves singled to left to score Cook and give Rice an early 1-0 lead.

RE: Rice at Houston (Tuesday Baseball Game)
Let's get off to a good offensive start for a change.

Byrd line single to CF.
Cook single through hoile. Runners on 1B and 2B, no outs. Let's capitalize.
Ewing ground ball hits Byrd in the hole. Byrd out. Runners on 1B and 2B, one out. Very tough break.
Reeves RBI single! 02-13-banana Runners on 1B and 2B, one out.
McDowell struck out swinging. Ugh.
Hoelscher RBI single! 02-13-banana Runners on 1B and 2B, two outs.
Aquino struck out swinging on full count.
Good start, but it could have been so much better.

Good guys jump out to early 2-0 lead heading to the bottom of the first inning.

Well it looks like we ended up with 4 hits (and the 2 runs) in the first, but that already ties our hit total from the first UH game. Although can't you be credited for a hit too in Ewing's case (I think it's up to the scorer's discretion and that if it looked like it was going to be a hit if it didn't hit the runner, you give the batter a hit, but if it looked like a FC, then that's how you score it)??

No. Official scorer has no say it that decision. If it hits the runner, it's a force out. Period. No discretion.

It's not a force out. It's a hit, and the runner is out.

Well Gametracker had it wrong right away too but they've corrected it (Rice with 5 hits now and not 4). UH has a leadoff single too - lots of singles here in this 1st inning.

Caleb better stop falling behind batters, as UH hitters will take and take and take. Gotta pound the strikezone from the get go.

Caught a break there-- Coogs with runners on 1B and 2B, no outs (single, walk) and the next batter swings on 2-0 pitch and lines out to Hoelscher....but now a double steal puts both runners in scoring position, one out.

At least a double (if not triple) play was on a silver platter after a diving catch, but a forced throw from Shane to Stainback prevented it from happening.

Why does it always take Caleb 1 - 2 innings to get his command? Have him warm up for an extra 15 minutes in the pen prior to coming in, but this is just killing us. Three walks already this inning, and he's falling behind everyone.

Looks like a walk to load them followed by a FC (couldn't turn the DP) gets the runner at 2nd but one scores. Followed by a 4-pitch walk to load them once again.
