The entire system is a sham when it comes to education. There needs to be a top down review of every school by an independent organization that is going to give us a real picture of the state of higher education for cash producing athletes.

Saying "isn't it wonderful my school isn't doing it as bad as your school" is to miss the entire point. The point is both schools are taking advantage of kids to make money while failing them in the most heinous way. The entire system ought to not tolerate failure of any kind, instead of being cool with a little failure here and there.

You know what they say about the splinter in your eye...

What UNC has done threatens the integrity of the whole institution. Alumni should be outraged.

Others are pushing the limits as Willingham's report shows. The ones who responded to the CNN report show they are aware and monitoring. Some, like UNC, don't care. There is a difference.

Darrell Royal was a legend at Texas. He tried to get an "easy" major for athletes at Texas. He complained that Ohio St. and Michigan had one. But the administration told him no. (I have heard a later president said yes to Mack Brown, but without any specifics, so I don't know if its true or not. It would be disappointing if it was).

To be fair, most Chapel Hill almni I've talked to are embarrassed and pissed off at what occured at their alma mater. Sure, there are a few exceptions but it's primarily the WalMart bandwagon fans that couldn't find Chapel Hill on a map that are going with the "well, everyone else is doing it" excuse.

And yet the administration is still going after Willingham. Why isn't there pressure to stop embarrassing the alumni?

No idea. Maybe the alumni should step up?

Too bad the show wasn't 30 minutes or an hour and on one of the major networks in prime time.

Willingham and others have books coming out this Summer. I suspect those will draw the major networks in primetime. The shame is that the non-revenue athletes ARE real students.

Well, the Walmart bandwagon fans AND the UNC administration, the BOT, and the BOG.
