Apparently there's some stuff going around the net (including Sheep Nation) that Shaka to Marqutte might be a done deal. Eric Maynor gets waived by the 76'ers yesterday and now looking for a job..... and now this? There's going to be some "Havoc" in Richmond if it's true. lol

Sounds like it's time for Shaka's yearly raise.

I would be surprised if he bolted for marquette. I'm not sure Wake Forest isn't better than marquette and he won't go there either.

Wake Forest would probably be a better job for Jeff Jones (he is good friends with Dave Odom). If the Wake job opened next year and ODU had a good year, Jones would probably be good as gone. I do think Shaka to Marquette might happen. That is home for him.

Smart loves vcu? They are the gift that keeps giving. So its the yearly Shaka shakedown. I wonder if this will ever end for their athletic department.

Marquette actually spends a lot of cash on their basketball program--one count had them at 6th in the entire nation. That job pays well.

It would have been a hoot if he had gotten the Tech job.

which is why I'm surprised Buzz bolted for VT unless he was going to get fired or just wanted to coach in the ACC.

The Big East is destabilizing, Buzz was smart to leave. Any ACC job is better than a Big East job going forward. IMO, Smart would do well to choose Wake Forest. VCU to Marquette doesn't make a ton of sense other than more money and his self realization that he has hit his ceiling at VCU.

There apparently were pretty serious problems between Buzz and the AD. There's a lot of instability over there. It was probably a "leave on my own terms now or leave on their terms next season" kind of deals. In theory Virginia Tech could be a good job, but they'll need to be patient. Dumpster fires don't turn into rose gardens in one season.

The difference between BE and ACC is football money and all the basketabll guru's are in the ACC - Coach K, Williams, Boeheim, Pitino, etc even Larranaga - as it should be. Wake is a good job, bet Shaka looks long and hard at that job. ACC is the only place to be for basketball.

It's probably tougher to win there than at N.C. State, and he turned them down a couple of years ago. Now if North Carolina opens up, he'd be wise to be one of the many to throw their hats in, but that goes without saying.

He's said no to better gigs than Marquette. Unless he has family or something in the region he wont go there IMO. I also heard from a pretty good source close to VCU that Shaka is pretty sensitive about thinking people just want to hire him because of his ethnicity. He supposedly turned down one big job because he felt they wanted him more for his skin than his coaching ability. Not saying Marquette or wake forest would do that , just that its an interesting aside. In my opinion he's got nothing left to prove. The guy has done a good job. Hate his team, but he's good. It would be interesting to see if they would an assistant to replace him. They seem to keep going with the assistants.

When Williams retires for Carolina Shaka will not be on the list of potential replacements - never happen. The Wake job is definately worth his look now that he's peaked at VCU.
