The players need a mindset to play physical and that begins in the summer by getting stronger. Physical strength builds mental strength and vice versa.

We play too much with hands and arms.

UVA is very good playing with their bodies. It's effective and you get called for fouls much less. Just simple rubs and bumps. They finish better because they are stronger. More than a few times they just took the ball away from Tigers.

The returning players and newcomers must get stronger and develop a physicality that is lacking.

To me, it is the most glaring weakness.

It's not that Shaq isn't big either. He needs a low-post defensive lesson from ZBO. He just stands there. He's afraid to foul. You can be aggressive and straight up and still not foul. Him and Austin need the weight room. Starting tomorrow.

Nah, just hire someone competent.

The differenc between the best S&C guy in the bizz and the one that is merely competent is minimal.

Just get someone in who will actually motivate the players to workout.

Well yeah...I just think the lack of physicality is what stands out most to me.

Strength coach is wayyyy overrated. If you can run, endurance is big. If you want to run but can't. It doesn't matter.

He'll hire a former Arizona S&C assistant and say he is one of the top up and coming guys in the business.

Shaq is physical. He just isn't given the tools to succeed. Doesn't matter

I think the most glaring thing is that Frank didn't seem to think it was his job to motivate the guys to workout. Doesn't matter how cutting edge badass the workouts are if the kids don't do them.

I don't know...I saw a team that was more physical 1 through 5.

Getting stronger makes a difference. IMO.

Exactly. The tone for the season is set in the off season.

That's where the S&C coach/program comes into play.

We had a good one but got rid of him.

I agree with HoopDreams. Also think we need at least 2 bigs off the bench that can be counted on for productive minutes each game. Starters have to know if they play hard and need rest or they get into foul trouble all is not lost. Quality depth and lots of it.

So you're saying the guy being a brother-in-law shouldn't be a major criteria for consideration ?
