Homefry20, I see what you're saying, but it's a helleva lot of work and dedication! I just got my daughter's schedule(freshman to be at ovc school-basketball). It's mind blowing at the 6am sessions and practices. Basically school and ball. Fact of the matter most of the guys could probably qualify for aid and not have to play sports, but choose to do so. It's several "regular students"getting a free education that doesn't have to go through this type of scrutiny.

Only elite level athletes that perform to the highest standards are to be thanked. The deserve to be trashed by our own fans; many of whom hold themselves to personal standards that are 10 levels lower than the athletes that they are trashing.

At least you're consistent.

They live a very structured, privileged, and demanding life. Their lifestyle is not even close to real life. Are there some lessons to be learned about hard work, team work, and perseverance? Sure there are but that statement by JJ shows a very clear lack of 'real life' perspective that MOST 21-22 year olds don't have. Most young adults simply haven't lived long enough to have a sufficient frame of reference; they THINK they have but they have not.
Have no idea what you think you are talking about.
Joe's been around this community for years. His much less than privileged life has been well documented quite a few times.
From his very humble beginnings to where he is now, Joe has a firm grasp of life and what it takes to succeed. He has sacrificed much to achieve his dreams and take care of his family.

He's obviously well aware he has further to go before he's "made it".
Real life perspective? He's not the one lacking that.
You, otoh, show a keen lack of insight into what this young MAN has been through; and, what it's taken to get-just where he is now.

With miles to go before he sleeps.

I'm referring to his statement about his time at the U of M. You've chosen to expand that to include his life before college. I stand 100% behind my statements. You don't think he was catered to as a top high school player / recruit?

There's no hope for you. You apparently believe that Joe runs around town wearing bling; driving his brand new Escalade and having to sign autographs everywhere.
I'm done with this and I hope Joe gets to live that life of privilege that you describe.

Calling himself the King of Memphis sounds pretty elite. I hoped he learned something from that too.

If you'll allow me to bolster the hope part of your statement... the younger a person is, the more opportunity for choices that benefit him and others still lies ahead.

Those of us who have been plodding down the same road for many years now and choosing the same old **** time and time again are less likely to 'learn' something than our younger counterparts. lol

He's still young. He's still learning. He'll get there.

WTF are you talking about? I'm talking about a lack of mature perspective that most 18-22 year olds have. That's it. All the pouting and head dropping he did his first three years. Did he grow up a little? Yes. Is he going to continue to grow up? Yes, and for quite awhile.

From junior high and up elite athletes get special treatment and unless they end up going pro that's not 'real life'.

I have zero idea what set you off but you can shove if, stick and all.

This is what you said: " High D1 athletes are treated like rock stars. They have someone making sure that they are doing what they are supposed to be doing. They live a very structured, privileged, and demanding life. Their lifestyle is not even close to real life."

People, including me, interpreted, your original post about Joe (the Rock Star) to be something other than what you said you actually meant, i.e. that Joe had a 'lack of mature perspective'.

In any case, saying someone 'you can shove off, stick and all' can only be interpreted one way.

Thank You Joe Jackson & Chris Crawford
In related news (and a few days late) this past sunday, i was at the mem international airport headed to Denver (where i am at now), and insaw Chris Crawford walking by to the next gate which was to Chicago. He quietly sat on the ground in the corner with headphones on. I respected his privacy but i was really tempted to run up to him and thank him. Then they announced my plane was boarding, and we were separated, forever. The end. Hope you enjoyed! Lol

Go Chris. Show 'em how it's done. I read on the other board that he was schooling Jabari Brown in one of the NBA tryouts.

You gave us the fans your loyalty and skill and helped continue the Tiger tradition. Thanks Guys!!! I only see those traits as positives for the type of players we are always fortunate to get. The fans will always remember their heart while wearing Memphis across their chests. God Speed to you from a Memphian.
