RE: Could Josh bolt?
Memphis is by far one of the top basketball programs in the country. Top ten in attendance. Facilities as good as any programs. Great recruiting base, and a large market. Coaches are among the highest paid.

A good head coach means everything to the program. UConn wasn't exactly basketball royalty before Jim Calhoun took over. He won them 3 national titles in a 20 yr. period. Now they are perceived as a national brand by many.

Louisville has had the great fortune of having 2 Hall of Fame coaches as their last hires.

Their are plenty of good coaches out there who would love to have the Memphis job.

I'm not saying that it should be this year, but, whenever we do hire another coach, we need to hire a proven winner.

Damn Caulkins screwed up the Scott Drew hire. He would have been PERFECT for Tiger Basketball.

The Deal was DONE and Geoffs article made RC second guess his decision.

What to total FUBAR

Who knows if Drew's reputation in deserved or whether it's a bunch of butthurt from coaches who can't believe they're losing recruiting battles to some guy at Baylor or not. Regardless, do you think that we could have afforded to take on someone with his reputation with news about major violations at the school coming out?

Maybe a Drew hire would have worked out in the end. Maybe it looks OK in retrospect. But sitting in 2009, I don't think there's any way you can make that hire with major sanctions looming.

I going to be a Positive Paul, not a Negative Nellie (or is it Nelly), and say he won't, cause, gosh darn it, he likes being here.

I hope not. There's not a viable replacement for him.

He's done plenty to deserve 2-3 more years.

What I DON'T want to see is some whistledick, 'flavor of the tournament - made a S16 run (see Cuonzo Martin)' knee jerk hire come in here and flounder around.

Let's see what happens next season.

(Speaking of Martin: where would he be without Pearl's players, Stokes (lucky pick up), and Antonio Barton (lucky pick up)? Sitting at home, that's where. This fortuitous little run UT is making will keep him employed at UT for at least three more years and I'm not sure that's a good thing for them.)

...which is why the people actually holding the pursestrings have cooler heads than most fans. This scenario above won't happen. Not for what they're willing to pay.
