MyBB A new idea for the AAC tourney
We all know that in the end our fan bases are going to be to spread out for overall good attendance in any location. Why not set it up for the high seed to get to play at home? All the way to the championship? Let's be innovative. Be different. Make the regular season mean something. & give every schools fan base the opportunity to experience real life post season ball in their home gym. Teams are playing enough neutral court games. Let's be the first conference to reward our fan bases!!!

So you're suggesting maybe wind up having it in Tulsa again?

Really like the idea. The time it takes to organize and sell tickets to such a large event would be a hurdle.

Not possible...too much time needed to plan esp with Grizzlies playing in same building.

You're talking about a 4 day window. Not that big a deal to have nba black that out.

If they are the higher seed in a particular matchup. But play it in their on campus stadium. That bok center is a waste of money for that town.

Yeah well 90% empty arenas look little league. With this plan at least 75% of our fan bases would sell out every game. It would be good money for the league.

RE: A new idea for the AAC tourney
I actually really am in favor of the tournament being neutral court for a variety of reasons:

- Helps sell tickets since theoretically 10+ fan bases will be involved.
- Neutral court games better simulate the NCAAs and better prepare our conference-mates for the nature of the tourney.
- Easier to plan, people know where they are attending, etc.

If people want to experience post-season basketball at home, there is always the NIT 03-wink

I don't know. I just don't see this league ever supporting a nuetral court tourney. Regardless of where it is. Over half this league is about to be fluffed with old cusa members. They don't travel. I just believe our league & situation is unique. Our fan bases are not as large as the other power leagues & aside from a school here or there all the other leagues are packed with regional rivals that have been built over 50-100 years. Our league, aside from us & Cincy, not so much.

logistics for the teams would be a nightmare, not to mention ridiculous travel cost increases. Plus while you may increase the local crowd, the traveling crowd would be reduced to basically 0.

I think our conference is big enough to have a single location. Generally, the higher-seed location is meant when there is no people travelling. I think we showed the conference traveled pretty well overall.

Concur,

Plus the smaller conferences have a different goal with home court tourneys. The big issue is getting their best team in to have a chance at a win in the dance. The low/mid major is just trying to put their best foot forward and get a quality team into their 16/15/14/13 seed game.

A power conference like the AAC is going to have 3-6 bids most years and is less worried about getting one team in. This means acclimation to a neutral court that is closer to what they will face in the NCAAs is helpful.

Just my 0.02. Reasonable minds can disagree and there are multiple ways to skin a cat.

Logistics would be a problem. You would have schools that are not used to hosting a tournament setting doing just that. Let the conference put all of its efforts into one arena.
