indeed they did. Dodgers are a far better team than the Giants. I expect a healthy Dodgers team to go at least as far as last year.

Gomez is a hot head, but not really sure what Cole was pissed about. Maybe Gomez watched the ball off the bat, but I didn't think it was much. I've seen far worse. Definitely heard Cole drop an F-bomb

I think I'd have been able to laugh it off and say "I'm standing on 3rd after your mistake, fool" and that'd be it. I definitely wouldn't have done anything that led to punching. That's surely a hefty fine I'm not willing to pay.

Why was the pitcher talking junk in the first place. Yes the wind kept the ball in the park but Gomez' styling the hit provided an opportunity to get him out. I have no idea why baseball is show concerned with being shown up.

[Don't agree with Cole bitching]
But I'll tell you why baseball is concerned; it's the last bastion against all these clowns who have no respect for themselves or their sport. Columnists like Dave Schoenfield will lump guys like Jose Fernandez in with Gomez and Puig, but I see a difference. The former looks like he's having the time of his life out there. He isn't showing anyone up, or acting like a clown, he's just having fun. Whereas Puig will dog it and loaf after fly balls, like the other night against the Giants. He has no respect for himself. Reminds me of Lastings Milledge. There's having fun and celebrating and there's acting like Miles Austin when he set the ball down on the goal line as he raced into the endzone for a TD a few years ago. Some of these guys should try acting like adults

RE: MLB 2014 season thread
well into May and things are really different this year..

NL East looks like the Central last year. .500 teams 4th/5th place. Central has fallen apart- St Louis 15-14(and losing to the Cubs today)- but still in 2nd place. West looks like SF/LA- with Colorado playing probably over their heads so far. Right now playoffs would look like
Milwaukee vs LA/Was
San Francisco vs Atlanta

AL-
east has been mediocre(every team right now has a negative run differential). Yanks are in 1st but 3 games seperates 1st/5th. Central Detroit off to a good start- could see them running away there. West Oakland up 3 right now.
playoffs right now
Oakland vs Baltimore/Texas
NY Yankees vs Detroit

for years people whined about there not being any parity in baseball. I hope those people are finally done complaining because this year is wide open. On the count of 3 pick a favorite in the NL. Yeah it's that difficult

RE: MLB 2014 season thread
NL is interesting. 6 teams already 5 games back or more not even 30 games into the season.

I think the Nats may wind up being the favorite. Get Fister back on Tuesday I believe and that just solidifies the rotation which is already really good. Right now Strasburg is 4th best pitcher behind Gio and Zimmerman and Tanner Roark who has been dynamite so far. Only 1 pitcher has an era higher than 4.11 right now(and he's farmed). But offense has been the key. Nats are 3rd offensively in the NL with a .259 avg. and also in runs scored at 126. With that pitching staff, if they can keep it up- it's over. Oh and the bullpen- totally different than last year. Right now I've allowed as many earned runs as Rafael Soriano has. Storen 1 er in 9.2 innings(and some real high pressure situations he's gone in). Really only Clippard has struggled and he's still got a 2.63 ERA despite all that. Braves can't score enough(only 97 runs in 28 games- or 34 fewer than the Nats in 1 fewer game). Also, it's not like last years schedule where the Nats and Braves play a ton early- they've played 6 and 4 more mid June- but that's in between now and August. Braves are going to have to do something vs the rest of the league(only 12-10 after tonight so far). Nats are 16-7 vs rest of the league.

It's still early in the season yet. Give it some time and things will shake out as they should.

he's not my friend. he's the only 2010 Giant whom I no longer root for. After he acted like a petulant child over that whole 2012 WS ring situation and continued to act like a self-promoting douche, I could no longer keep rooting for the man I used to affectionately refer to as simply B.

Odd. I hated him and his cross arming, heaven looking ritual after he got the save. Then he joined the dodgers. As the line from the movie goes, it's amazing what a change in uniform will do for a guy.

That was a tribute to either his dad or his grandpa, can't remember. Not sure how someone could hate on that. But just to clarify, I don't dislike him because he's on the dodgers. I'll always cheer for Uribe, as he also played a huge role in 2010, but didn't burn any bridges.

You shouldn't have jinxed him.

Not that I think the giants are the favorite, but they're certainly playing well right now. They've hit a ton of dingers, drawn a decent amount of walks and the bullpen has been absolutely fantastic. I'm still skeptical about the starting rotation, but they've held it down over the last couple weeks. But let's see what happens as the season progresses

RE: MLB 2014 season thread
and another sweep for the Giants. this time coming in Atlanta against an extremely flawed Braves team. Once again I don't see them getting past the 1st round, if they make it at all. Their lineup can be pitched to, especially Gattis, the Uptons, Simmons and Heyward. We had Vogelsong and Lincecum going (two of the worst pitchers in the league), didn't get a hit with RISP and still swept the series.

Let's not forget that the pen had another scoreless outing, while the amazing Dodgers pen blew another game and has thrown the 2nd most innings in baseball.

RE: MLB 2014 season thread
Braves now 12-12 against anyone not the Nationals. Their offense is putrid- #29 right now. 9 of 13 losses this year where they've scored 0 or 1 runs.

And, next 4 weeks is a brutal schedule. Of the 8 series- only one against a bad team is 3 with the Cubs. other than that 6 with the Cards, 3 more with San Fran, 4 with Milwaukee, 3 with the Rockies, 4 with the Red Sox and 3 with the Marlins(In Miami, where they are the best team in baseball- no seriously they are at 14-5).
